Hi, do you know any place where we can list bad representations of diversity? (I know this is highly subjective but it needs to be discussed bc offensive representation is worse than no reprsentation.)
Hi, this is Ellen answering. I'm not sure if there is such a compilation to be found anywhere. And there's concern that, like you said, the very subjective nature of such a listing might cause unintended problems. While I understand your feelings, I worry that such an action might also feel a bit like censorship - like a blacklist. It strikes me as too similar to when right wing conservative groups ban books for "questionable" subject matter. I think it is perfectly fine to talk about why certain books are problematic, but I would avoid any semblance of putting together a "bad diversity" book list. I hope this makes sense?
