shy of contact, never before had the outsider been intimate with another person. a primal, instinctual fear ate away at his heart, rendering him incapable of devotion or loyalty. a difficult obstacle to overcome ---- although not impossible. corvo had taught him more than anticipated, bricks in the wall surrounding him torn from its top. it’d taken months and many disappearances, yet he found himself returning every time. what was it that fated him to return? had he truly been that lonely? truthfully, he was horrified. mystery had become comfort, the distance between him and mankind soothing feelings of inadequacy. but now... he had a connection.
silence filled a gap between them, both placed on the roof of the building. to have him reach the ground with both feet was a rare occasion, even if by now corvo had witnessed his true height. a small, fragile frame ---- years of neglect marking his body frail. touch oft made him fall ill with insecurity, the weakness of his physique startling even to himself. he wished to overcome it. he wished to be a different person. there was no hesitation as he slipped off the balcony’s ledge, feet settling onto the floor with a slight thump. with gradual movement, he closed in to corvo, his curious gaze evident despite the darkness of hues. cold digits reached out, head tilting before skin contact was made. ‘t was but a brush of fingers, strands of hair gracing hand thereafter. as they curled, lips parted, revealing a vulnerability that could easily be taken away ( were one to abuse it ).
❛ i’d forgotten the warmth of human skin. ❜, as he lacked it himself. ❛ ---- it’s pleasant. ❜
