. “Up in Smoke” . #jessagilbertart . A curling and whirling system of clouds and smoke weaves around the mountain faces above. It’ll burn off, they say. . ...Real Talk... . This artwork came out of a lonely winter in a new town under lockdown. A feeling of being perpetually under cloud. Those feelings don’t always pass for everyone. Sometimes, more frequently than ever, we lose each other to their own inner demons. . Yesterday was World Suicide Prevention Day, and happened to collide with personal news of a friend falling to suicide. The news crushed me, but, even more, was how everyone around me I reached out to for support had their own personal losses of friends and loved ones to suicide. This is not okay. Suicide CANNOT become normalized, and mental illness should NOT continue to be put off for more pressing agendas. More than 700,000 people leave this world by suicide every year according to the World Health Organization. THIS, is a pandemic. . Please, reach for your loved ones. Ask for help, lend a hand, tell your friends you love them, and know you’re not alone. 🖤 . #WSPD21 @burton @skidagram @revelstoke_visualartscentre (at Up in Smoke) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTr4110lwWb/?utm_medium=tumblr
