Random facts about the astromechs and names in WTPD
Artoo, since he was originally from Naboo’s Royal Starfighter Corps, was programmed to refer to people in a deferential manner. The only person he does this with is Padmé [Senator-Queen-Amidala]
Changing names within an astromech’s database is hard if they haven’t had a mindwipe in a while; their self-repair code tends to just replace it, so it’s easier to append than completely replace.
Because Obi-Wan made the mistake of putting Anakin in charge of Arfour’s maintenance, she’s never had a mindwipe since she came off the factory line.
The same goes for Arseven. Anakin’s policy of refusing mindwipes is passed to Ahsoka, so even after the fall of the Republic, they never get a wipe.
Padmé refused to give Artoo a mindwipe after the Invasion, so he still refers to Obi-Wan as “Friend-Kenobi” and Anakin as “Ani”.
Artoo would refer to Ahsoka as just her name, but he heard Anakin call her Snips, thought it was hilarious, and told his self repair code for a few days that no, that data wasn’t corrupted, “Snips” is correct.
Somewhere along the line, likely due to her being a Jedi droid, Arfour started referring to people only by their last names. This gets confusing once she meets the Skywalker twins, as she can’t even just use “Skywalker A” and “Skywalker L”
As a result of this, Luke and Leia somehow end up the only people she will refer to by their first names. Anakin may be slightly offended he’s still “Skywalker.”
Arseven mostly refers to people by first name, even where a title would be more appropriate. Part of this is because they came into their personality surrounded by a bunch of clones who only had one name, so to them a last name is more of a signifier of batallion than anything else.
Except for Anakin. He is and forever will be Skyguy to them. (He says he hates this, but every time he hears it Ahsoka feels his presence light up like a star, so she never tells Arseven off)
Arfour’s problems with names gets even worse when Mand’alore Kryze declares the establishment of a new Mandalorian clan as thanks for the former GAR troops that helped free her homeworld twice. Not only do Rex, Jesse, and Kix suddenly have a last name, but they chose Tano. (At least she can call them “Tano A,” unlike the Skywalkers)
Arseven called Palpatine “Sheev” the one time they were around him. It took the collective 62 years of training they had for Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka not to burst out laughing.
Arseven and Artoo also know everyone’s Fulcrum codenames. Arfour refuses to know anyone’s but Obi-Wan’s, claiming that knowing more is a huge breach of security protocol. (She’s right, but Arseven is essentially the fulcrum of the Fulcrum frequency, and Artoo is, well, Artoo)
today’s random WTPD section, featuring our favorite human disaster, a badass politics lady who hasn’t seen him in half a year, and a line from everyone’s favorite scoundrel
“I am not leaving you, Ana--mhh, Fearless.”
“Angel, I promise I will catch up, but your safety is more important right now--”
“No.”
“What do you mean no? That man was an Inquisitor--”
“No, because last time you said that you fell off a bridge and disappeared for six months.”
Anakin blinked at her for a moment. “I fell off a bridge?”
Solo started laughing. “That explains so much.”

i,,, love writing Revelin. He’s such a little shit. Case in point: everything in this snippet with Jolee
Revelin gasped in mock affront. “Are you saying you wouldn’t ram a Sith ship for me?”
“In our junker? Absolutely not.”
Revelin snorted. “Please tell me you haven’t said that in front of Carth.”
“I’ve said it in front of Atton.”
“And you’re still alive?”
Jolee shrugged. “I’ve lived long enough to know how far back to stand from a trained sensitive when you call their ship a junker.”
“And how far is that?”
“Their wingspan. Too pissed to remember they can throw you across the room with a thought.”
Revelin grinned. “I’ll pay you to call the Hawk a junker in front of both of them.”
“That would turn out about as well as the time you called Canderous ‘Candy.’”
