Connections in Peerless and Thousand Autumn’s: An Attempt
I, unfortunately, don’t have thousand autumn volumes at hand to cross-check, but I’m trying to connect whether Cui Buqu and Shen Qiao know each other, since both series are set in the same world, one right after the other.
In Peerless vol.3 it gets revealed that Cui Buqu has helped Jang Jian (back then Duke of Sui) to plan how to usurp the throne. The plan has worked and that’s how Cui Buqu has gained new emperors trust.
However what I was thinking about that bit in TA (qq? how do we shorten it?) where Shen Qiao was saving the youngest daughter of the previous emperor (who I think became duchess Yuwen in peerless, since I remember the girl being related to Duke of Sui) and some other official’s son (or that was also Jang Jian’s son? not sure). I think that happened around vol.4, but the problem of me being unable to check it without books at hand still stands.
He brings the children to hideout where their “trusted relatives” and other officials/nobles are planning to take the throne. So I wonder whether Cui Buqu could have been there. As far as I remember, Shen Qiao almost immediately left, so even if Cui Buqu really was there, they most likely have not interacted. But it still possibly the first time their paths have crossed.
Additionally to that, it was said (peerless vol.3) that while Jiejian Buro focuses more on foreign affairs, Zhouyue Buro focuses on internal affairs and cultivators-related things. Which means Cui Buqu could have interacted with Shen Qiao as part of his work. Also it also makes me question why Khaganate mission was originally assigned to Cui Buqu and not Feng Xiao.
One of the funnest things about reading Peerless is that by himself, Feng Xiao is a terrifyingly brilliant and cunning spymaster, but because he’s put next to Cui Buqu he comes across like an absolute himbo.

Wushang (Peerless) / 無雙 (BL) By 夢溪石
I finished this novel quite some time ago but was extremely lazy about writing a review for it. The initial plan was to do a full review but having left it for so long, I no longer recall any of the main events so I’m afraid this will have to be based on my hazy and unreliable memory.
You may recall how much praise I sang for the author’s other popular work Thousand Autumns (if you haven’t read it yet, make sure you do!). Needless to say, I had very high hopes for this novel.
And it is with regret when I say that my expectations were not met.
The MC is a quiet, sickly man who looks like any day could be his last, ordinary in appearance but extremely intelligent and calculative. The beautiful and talkative ML is coveted by all, and is smart and scheming. Both the MC and ML officially work for the crown and country, but underneath their departments are on opposite sides. They met due to investigating a case and from then on, they collaborated together (aka used each other) for respective gains and despite their outwardly friendly facade, they were constantly scheming against each other and that was fun to read.
The world building was superb, the plot was executed quite well, and the characters were also fleshed out and to some extent, even more so than Thousand Autumns. Sadly, the novel just wasn’t that memorable. Relationship wise, I did not, at any point in the story, find myself rooting for them. While the MC and ML were fine as individuals, I really wasn’t bothered about whether they got together or not.
If I had to rate this using stars then it would be higher than a 3 but lower than 4. While it wasn’t for me, I reckon this is definitely worth the read if you like this genre or the author’s style. And if the reviews on NU are anything to go by, this one comes highly recommended!

The Earth is Online / 地球上線 (BL) By 莫晨歡
I started this novel because I’d read one too many rebirth and revenge stories and felt like reading something different at the time. This is a novel about survival through puzzle games and gaining special abilities along the way. The story started off well, the background world setting was actually pretty good but it became rather tedious and boring along the way, and the ending even more so. In terms of romance I’d say this was more shounen ai than yaoi as it was pretty basic and preliminary. I couldn’t tell you if the main CP actually had any real feelings for one another. Sure, I accept that the world is ending and love would probably be the last thing on anyone’s mind but if other novels could do it (and do it well), then why was it a problem here? Unless of course, romance was added simply as a tickbox for the sake of being ‘bl’. Romance issues aside, my main niggle was actually with the author. There were some games/puzzles and rules that made me question my intelligence because they simply baffled me from the get-go. I’m either extremely dumb or they weren’t explained properly - I’m inclined to go with the latter. I often felt that the author gave retrospective explanations to highlight a character’s intelligence rather than make us understand that the character was intelligent to begin with. By doing things this way, it served no real purpose other than to undermine the reader’s intelligence! I can’t really recommend this novel but I guess those who are looking for a filler read, or those who generally enjoy stories involving puzzles, abilities, action, and survival (and death) amidst an apocalyptic backdrop then sure, go for it! Wu Shang (Broken)
Wu Shang is actually broken. At least, his gauntlets are. His side sig is naturally a 2 parter, and if it lands, it becomes a 3 PART SIG. It’s not like he takes much skill, but here, take some combos anyway.
Spear: Spear, like bow, has one basic combo that can only be improved upon. It consists of slight, dlight, a jump to reposition yourself, and a sair. Add a nlight at the beginning to deal some extra damage, and instead of instantly jumping, use a GC dlight. However, if you use the second dlight, your jump will no longer properly reposition you to use a sair. Instead, try using a nair. The nair will either place your enemy above or to the side of you. If it places them above, use a recovery. If they go to the side, now you can use your sair to potentially knock them out. The total written version of this would look like this: nlight, CD (chase dodge. More on that in a bit.), slight, dlight, GC, dlight, nair, recovery/sair.
Gauntlets: Gauntlets have essentially one useful combo without GC’s. It goes slight, nair, sair, nlight, repeat. If an enemy is launched off the platform at any point in time, chase after them and hit them with a dair. After the dair, keep them from coming back by using a ground pound. You can hit them with multiple ground pounds, however make sure you leave a jump or a dodge to get back to the platform. If you use a recovery to get back to the platform, be careful not to catch them in the recovery, lest you accidentally save your enemy from death. A short combo that could be added to other things is dlight, slight, GC, dlight, sair. If you mess up the timing on the GC, not to worry! Keep attacking as you were, and your dair will most likely hit the enemy.
As you can see, Wu Shang is very simple to play. As long as you have your combos down easy, you’ll be perfectly fine. There isn’t too much you can say about an absolutely broken character, so if this is your main, sucks for you.
