Oh, say, can you see?

My mother’s was one of the schools destroyed by flooding in WV earlier this summer. At present, she and her colleagues are sharing space in an elementary school that escaped the water.

Now, most of the supplies and equipment from mom’s classroom were salvaged, but they’re also currently in storage... in another county. Including her U.S. flags.

And since saying the Pledge of Allegiance is apparently a thing WV students do again, they needed something to salute, so until further notice they’re all swearing their loyalty to a classmate’s crutch.

Said classmate finds this hilarious, by the way.

Would really appreciate some kind thoughts this weekend. I'm driving to southern wv today to help some families with clearing out the insides of their houses because of the flood.

I know some of you have been looking for ways to help with the flooding situation in WV and, as a teacher, I've been watching for funding requests from schools to pop up. This happens to be the first I've seen and I will continue to watch for flood relief requests in Clay County and Greenbrier County since they are also on the list as being some of the worst damaged areas. I'm not sure how much damage their schools may have taken, though because there isn't as much news coverage out of those areas and I'm finding my information from several states away right now. I'll keep looking and updating as I come across new information.

Not building on a flood plain would have been a good place to start

Mom has to go to the school tomorrow to get her personal things out of her classroom. They’re going to gut the building as the most efficient way to clean and repair it. At least they’re not condemning the whole structure, though I understand the area including the art room has been condemned; so hopefully the Richwood kids will have somewhere to go to school come August.

Of course, more rain is coming through...

I am continually reminded of why I have such pride to be a West Virginian. People coming together from all over the state. Politicians wanna impress me? Show one once of genuine care. I don’t care if you tweet about it, anyone can type they care on a keyboard. The Greenbriar was opened up as a shelter for flood victims, residents are arming themselves at night and doing neighborhood patrols to deter looters. We don’t do looters in this state. Greenbrier Co WV along with other parts of Southern West Virginia are in need of prayers. We suffered from a horrible flood that has so far taken 23 lives and washed away many houses and vehicles. All I'm asking is for a prayer and maybe even a post about the devastation and ask for prayers for the community. Thank you and God bless in advance 💛💙
