#Repost @wvtm13 ・・・ WVTM 13 entered a new era Sunday as a new antenna was put on top of the tower at #RedMountain in Birmingham. This antenna completes our transition to a new frequency and will improve your #reception of #WVTM13 news and #programming. The last time a new antenna was installed on the tower was in 2019 when we went #digital. At that time we did not use a helicopter to get the 6,000-pound antenna to the top. It was pulled to the top with a pulley system. The 2020 #antenna weighs 8,000 pounds and is much longer at 53 feet. A #Sikorsky #skycrane heavy-lift #chopper was brought in to remove the old antenna before hoisting the new antenna atop our 1,000-foot #tower. A crew of three men rode a bucket up to the top then climbed out to unhook the old antenna and later secured the new antenna, which was built in #Maine and driven to #Alabama. Check out the video above! #Vulcan Park & Museum closed for the day to allow for the #helicopter to land in its parking lot, where it placed the old antenna and picked up the new one. Huge thanks to @visitvulcan for helping us make this happen! Learn more here: https://bit.ly/wvtmantenna https://www.instagram.com/p/CC2kI5LjWay/?igshid=1l0cv8o5b2cyw
