WHY ARE THERE SO MANY EARTHQUAKES IN CALIFORNIA? - California straddles two tectonic plates; the San Andreas fault; seismic waves - there are so many girls in California that are named after storms/the other way around. their steps are godlike & they have this look in their eyes. it is at once calm and fervent, still and turbulent. the girls in California are masterpieces & the girls in California are passionate. the world echoes their steps, broadcasts them so we can feel them everywhere. nobody can look these girls in the eye, but we all know they are there. they are the earthshakers, girls built for more. and they are more, so much more than you; there is this line from a poem that time forgot and it talks about the gods, the ancient ones, but these girls could crush them under one high heeled toe. girls are always looked over, but not here. “oh they are gods not girls, don’t make divinity from mortality” don’t steal femininity from power. these girls are powerful, and the earth shakes when they move. these girls.

personality trait #1: fear

morning cup of tea, burning down your throat. you don’t have time to wait anymore. it’s the am and all your demons are out searching you’re not safe when you’re dreaming and now you’re not safe when you’re dying where is your respite where is the mercy. shower, in and out, looking behind your shoulder. you never know who will be there, not now. you wear your bathing suit. you don’t really want to see yourself; paranoia doesn’t look good on you. brushing teeth, hard and too quick, because frustration is all over you like a heavy perfume and you are starting to drown in it. you are lost and alone and so goddamn far from home, it’s a terrible secret and a wonderful lie.

it’s just - perfection. it bothers me, an itch under my skin: elusive. irritating. and breaking it, well. it makes me feel electric.

pretty girl you’re not safe here not - not safe sorry, it’s just (a) that hair like gold and everyone knows what happens to gold it’s priceless (you never let it go or it’s sold) (which do you want) (b) those eyes like the ocean and everyone knows what happens to the ocean it’s blue until it’s not; everyone wants it until they don’t, until it’s all used up and broken and dead (give up or ruin it further) (which do you want) (c) that skin nighttime beautiful and everyone knows what happens to the night sky it’s pretty until you can’t see it anymore; until there’s skyscrapers airplanes encroachment; until there’s clouds of pollution where did the stars go (forget it or pretend it’s still beautiful) (which do you want) so you’re beautiful. beauty has a deadline. do you want to (a) live ‘till you meet it or (b) die and be remembered. which do you want.

you tried to put heaven in my heart. i bled golden sunshine, for you. i blossomed gardens and plucked the flowers out from under my fingernails, for you. but you wanted angel girl - sinless, perpetually young. and i would light the world up for you, burn down all the skyscrapers until you were the only god left. but you didn’t want that. you didn’t want a boiling vat of aging regret. the volatility scared you. you let me go. i murdered the gardens, baby. and i burned up the sun.
