His heart still felt heavy and the lump was still in his throat, even after a few hours of walking away from Erebor. When that thirteen Dwarves turned up in Bag End last September, Bilbo Baggins had no idea that he would grow so fond of them. Even though he was longing to be at his home again, saying goodbye to his comapnions did hurt him. Especially the goodbyes that were forever. To know that Thorin, Fíli and Kíli would never knock on his door again, no matter how much he would want them to. They were buried deep into the Mountain, along with the Arkenstone that had caused so much trouble in their family.
Tears filled his eyes at the thought and he had to stop for a while to calm down. When he managed to pull himself togather and got ready to walk on, he saw another person on the road, walking towards him. From their height, the Hobbit could state that they belonged to the Men - probably someone from Lake-Town. As they were not very far - but not near enough to see whether they were a man or a woman -, he decied to wait for them.
As the starnger came closer, Bilbo’s heavy heart became a little lighter and he was glad that he decided to wait, because he finally recognised the other person: it was Iona, the healer from the woods. A smile touched his lips as he stepped out on the road to greet the woman.
“I didn’t think we would meet again,” he said.
