Hi... absolutely new to GJ and Anne Lister.
People often will quote AL's diaries with a date, etc... and as of yet, I have never ever actually found those entries in the books available (Helena Whitbread, or others I can get my hands on). Why is this? I thought her entire diary was transcribed...? Or maybe all of it is not available. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Hello – the journal extracts/entries that you find in books are a selection and don't actually cover the whole of the journals.
The journals are available on the WYAS website – there you can browse every single page of what Anne wrote by searching the Catalogue Finding Number which is a unique number for every diary page (random example: SH:7/ML/E/7/0009).
In the past three years people have been reading and transcribing the diaries by themselves and publishing their transcriptions online. Many "new" Anne Lister words saw the light of day because of that, and that's probably why you find quotes from her journals that are not in the books you've read.
The WYAS is currently publishing full transcriptions of her journals thanks to a volunteer project they launched three years ago.
Hope this helps to clear things up! Have a good day :)
lol they leaked about the first 22 seconds of that song. it isn't calculated- it's literally the first part. oooh harry and louis sing in the first 22 seconds??? not really a big deal.
ok, well i can think what i want, and you can think what you want, deal?
l finally thought of a title for it - also this has been saved on my laptop for 2 weeks but I had to finish up a bit of a cliff hanger I guess?
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
A continued imagine that I couldn't stop so now it's a fic about Martin and Liam, plus the little shit Louis because I can never keep him out of my writing.
“Give me a shot of Brandy.” Louis said, wiping stress from his face.
“Making me get you drunk isn’t going to help your circumstance, you may want to slow it down a little. Remember my friend; you’re a bit of a lightweight.” Niall replied, granting him the Brandy but remorsefully looking up at what a mess Louis was. He could understand why Louis was a bit ‘upset’ but not why this night made Louis such a damn wreck, nothing terrible happened. Louis already had a couple beers and he never liked to face his reality of getting drunk easily.
After all, what happened wasn't big or anything. When Liam got done singing the song, he hopped off stage, glowing of course because he’s Liam, Louis’ so called ‘soul mate’. Anyways he walked through the crowd receiving a few pats on the back, and he just kissed that guys hand. No big deal right. No big fucking deal. Louis’ been kissed on the hand by Liam countless times, just one little peck on another man’s knuckle couldn't hurt right? Jesus Christ. Whatever, it just really made Louis upset. Like one of those terrible feelings you get when you find out the person you liked was no longer single. Or the kinda feeling where you just get the wind knocked out of you, and for a few brief seconds you can barely breathe. “I think I’d rather be passed out drunk, than bare-faced sober when Liam gets back. So which one of you was the unfortunate fellow to take the good ‘ole lazy boy pullout.”
“Liam.” Niall answered, and Louis’ stomach knotted up, got him excited, but then he went back to being mournful.
“I’m sleeping out on the fucking curb.” Louis said. Taking his shot and giving a bitter face afterwards.
“I was only kidding, I just wanted to see what you would say. I’m the one on the couch.” Niall laughed. Damn Niall, always was a better liar than what he was ever credited for, that idiot. “And we all know you’d never sleep outside, you’re only sleeping here because of that big heart of yours” Niall poked Louis’ chest and smiled. “I know you’d much rather be kickin’ it at the Hilton or something.”
“I’m not the type to lose my humbleness, you know that. Oh by the way Curly says ‘hi’. He told me to make sure you know he’s upset that you’re here and not helping him run the pub. He said you still have the option to manage, and the place is doing really well, Harry has a ton of business. You’d have a decent income.” Louis mentioned, opening another can of cheap beer.
Niall’s eyes lit up and he tightened his lips. Kinda like when you really want to do something, but there is that one thing holding you back. “That’s nice, mate. Be better than lousy tips and an after dark job as an exotic dancer.” He said.
Louis choked on the beer, coughing and beating his chest. “You’re a stripper?” he croaked.
“Don’t tell Liam or Andy, I swear I’ll kill you.” Niall said, disappointed in himself, and he let his head hang lowly. He saw nothing wrong with the profession, but never did he think he would have to resort to the job just to keep having a place to live.
“Damn it Niall why won’t you boys let me help out?” Louis said, he didn't like just knowing how hard of a life his best friends were being forced to live. Harry has got his own pub for Christ’s sake and he’s living well. And he himself literally had no financial worry at the moment, if things kept going the way they were, he would never have any future problems with it.
“Ah I can’t let you, we chose to live this lifestyle. As soon as I can get Liam a little better, we might can get back our ordinary ways.”

Instead of actually leaving the shop, Martin and Liam stayed in the same booth and have been there for hours. Just speaking about random things until Liam finally remembered he needed to finish off what he was saying earlier. “To finish off my explanation, I just felt the need to leave. Things got tough back home. It’s still an amazing place to live. I left some things I dearly miss sometimes.” Liam finished with a cackle.
Martin squinted his eyes and sat back in the booth, getting comfortable because who knows how much longer he would be sitting in that same position. “What sort of things?” he asked.
“Oh you know, little things. Favorite pair of sweats, my old lucky socks, memorabilia, all that sappy stuff. And my motorcycle, miss that too.” Liam answered.
“You have bike? Didn't fit you as the greaser type.” Martin laughed.
“Oh yeah? Well I wore the leather jackets, bandanas and everything.” Liam smirked. “I was indeed a character. Now I’m careless enough about my look to wear a flannel and basketball shorts.”
It was the kinda night where you could see the cold outside. People warming their hands with their breath, snow hats and scarves, and some holiday covered string lights attached to some old rustic buildings. It reminded Liam of home.
Liam’s eyes widened and he looked over at Martin in awe, “I believe I said we’d play a little game of soccer?” he said.

“So how’d your date go, Liam? Fantastic? Magical? Did the person make you weak at the knees?” Andy blushed, getting the best tease out of Liam he could. Besides, who doesn't want to get on their friend’s nerves a little?
“It was great.” Liam said, almost in a daze as he was just sitting on the couch with his eyes facing the ceiling.
Andy’s eyebrows rose from his forehead, almost like he wasn't expecting that blunt of an answer. “Hey, 'great' wasn't one of the choices given! Also, you admit it was a date, haha I've got you.”
“Then my choice would have been, all of the above… And what can I say?” Liam smiled, cheeks turning red and his muscles all loosening from such good feelings he was experiencing. “He’s a good one.”
“Aw my boy has got a crush. Tell me more?” Andy asked, scooting closer next to Liam, positioning himself where he was all bent with his elbows on his knees and his cheeks cupped in his palms. “C’mon now we all know it’s a rarity when you find someone you’re comfortable with.”
He was right, it was a rarity if Liam found someone he was comfortable with. Someone he could just automatically want to be around as much as possible. When Liam did find someone like that, he would always fall hard for them. Really hard. And when it would be over, he’d get broken. Maybe that’s why he’s not been ‘in the game’ for quite some time. But maybe this new boy could help everything, fix all the broken pieces.
“Alright well, his name is Martin.” – That’s when Andy regretted asking Liam to tell him more about the new boy, because Liam couldn't stop talking, it was a beautiful conversation though, just a long one. However, the walls aren't thick, and Louis just had to painfully listen from another room while chanting, “I’m an idiot.” to Niall for the rest of the time being. --
