to join back in the discussion, at my catholic school, we had obligatory religion classes where we learned shit like the church's stance on gay people, but people always argued? we were all kinda like "can you believe this shit?" so it was kind of a bonding thing. school in general was mostly everyone making fun of the religious things we had to do. even then, it wasn't that bad. they always gave us really fancy food after mass

I honestly feel like 90% of my religion class was either drawing stuff or discussing the holocaust so I don’t know if I have selective memory or what. OH and movie watching. that was really important The topic of sexuality as a whole was just really treated as taboo at my school (I mean in terms of the curriculum) so I don’t think it came up. BUT my religion classes were a clusterfuck. My first religion teacher was always late and then one day he showed up super late and got into a fight with another teacher and started swearing at the principal. we never saw him again. whenever we’d ask where he went, they’d say his mom was sick. and then *he* was sick and then just, nothing. So we went through 3 religion teachers in total that year, one of which made us act or bible scenes and another of which used her whistle all the time. My SECOND year of religion class involved a very angry teacher (the one who got into a fight with my previous religion teacher). and she was constantly on the verge of crying. She had a very short temper and you never knew when she’d either yell at us or break down in tears. she constantly lost entire religion units of material and that year we just had to write reflections. How do you feel about god? write two pages. leave. Draw a religion title page! Name all the steps involved in communion. Nothing controversial. And my third year was world religion so that was just like, history of religion and creation stories and rituals and all that. and fourth year was philosophy. Thus, in my four years of religion class, I do not believe marriage equality was ever discussed. as for mass, it was okay?? It always made me really sleepy and bored though

people have this idea of catholic schools as these really pretentious places with rich kids who aren't allowed to express themselves sexually and so it builds up. it is not accurate at all but i am assuming that's what the post is referring to

is it like a private/boarding school school versus public thing? because then that would make a lot more sense to me. There isn’t much of a difference in Canada, although there was always talk about public schools being less ‘safe’ or something. I think it was all propaganda used to keep us from switching from a school that enforced uniforms (khaki pants and awful itchy shirts that felt like cardboard. oh and how DARE you wear shoes with colour on them. you must change or go home now), hall pass regulations (you need your agenda signed! oh, you ran out of space on that page? bummer), locker rules (no bags in class! enjoy your suffering. Me: drops my glasses case and accidentally kicks it across the hall into a stampede of students) oh and punctuality (surprise! today we’re giving detention to everyone who is late. because fuck you). like 100% no thank you. save my otp. they deserve better

Understandable and admittedly in the wrong situation birds would probably be a con to me too but typically they keep their distance from me and I enjoy seeing them hop around

i’d say monosexual is bad because it lumps lesbians and gay people into the same category as straight people and is most often used to insult lesbians.

Oh yeah, I absolutely agree, like it’s super gross and problematic and even if it were a logical term to use by itself, I’ve probably seen it used in a way that wasn’t attempting to insult anybody or indicate privilege that people don’t have maybe once.  When I said it was theoretically “harmful” I really just meant it was actually affecting other people in any way at all (not that it’s even a widespread term so it’s not really asking that much), whereas “I’m putting my pronouns on my blog” or “I’m headcanoning this character as trans” is literally something you can completely ignore and that you really can’t claim anything but bigotry as a reason to be upset about.
