WYRD, A HISTORY
The origin of the word ‘weird’ is from the Old English WYRD meaning destiny or fate with the adjective meaning the ability to control fate. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth we are introduced to the Weird Sisters, a trio of witches inspired by the Fates and the Norns. These shapers of fate in mythology would weave the destinies of mortals.
Overtime, the word weird would be used to describe something or someone who is strange, different, odd, or otherworldly. And to be a weirdo is to be eccentric, a misfit and often misunderstood.
I named this astrology practice WYRD STARS because I was and am always the weird kid. And us weird kids need to to not only stick together but support one another as best we can, especially right now when being considered “unconventional” and “different” is actively being criminalized. I want to empower those who have felt marginalized and create a community where our weirdness can shine.
