My impression of Etins & Wights

I just finished reading in Wyrdwalkers by Raven Kaldera about the nine undine sisters. It is now my impression of the etins that they are beings of pure nature, nothing can stop them because they wield the kind and cruel forces of nature. Any etin can wield many different abilities of nature, that of fire, ice, cold, earth, wind, and water. Each is no more less than the other and often times they do not care much for human lives, as to be suspected of from ancient beings who are part of natures wrath and caring hand. They keep the balance of all things and do not abide by our rules. In some ways..they are like the alfs or other wights of the land, having concern for us in general. Yet, all of them have something to teach us if we seek them out. They may not always respond, but I feel these beings..they are wise and powerful in their own right and they deserve my respect. Back in the lesson of fire, Surtr had told Raven that creation and destruction are not two separate forms, but the very same thing all at once. I believe these statements to be true. The reputation of these books are vastly over exaggerated and while I will admit, he might be constrictive on some things telling you that this thing is only this or that way, I still believe that this book series has something to teach us for those who search for it. While I have not yet completed the book yet, I feel that this book and the one after it..it will provide me with useful information I can use in the future.

I had found the book by accident and had asked Odin many months ago to provide me with learnings and teachings of the "northern way" and while Raven isn't heathen..he has a lot of aspects I do agree with and a lot of understanding of these particular beings. It is knowledge, valuebable knowledge in fact that I believe can be useful to anyone who searches either for it or for these particular practices, which may or may not even be related to the "northern way". There are many things in it so far that I do agree with, which was unexpected due to how many people I have read reviews from gave it a bad review. It just goes to show that you should go based on your intuition, and not always what you might read in a review. At the same time, to also listen to the advice the gods might provide for you.

Where do the secrets dwell? I shall find them in the caves of knowledge that I seek, with my inner light to guide me. I must be prepared to give it all up, but at the same time to be transformed..to be mislead, to be guided in the direction to change. These practices; they are indeed insightful. I only hope and urge to read more!

I'm reading in Wyrdwalkers again. This time is mastering of the elements which consists of working with elemental gods and wights and them allowing you to access some of their power. This one lesson in particular is talking about how he had a relationship with Kari, the north wind as a teen and that he had done something wrong, tried to take from him without permission and that he had to make it up to him and eventually when he did by giving food offerings many years later, Kari had told him that his lesson was about the song, using the song as a spell. That each vibration has a particular magick associated with it. You know, this is probably one of the things that resonates with me because I often sing with songs in my head that no one knows. And I can just go on and on like in the story he provided where he sung for the longest time. This book resonates with me in certain ways. Although it is sometimes very restrictive, I like the passion he has in here. It is definitely something I find very interesting. He has a different but an almost practical way of looking at certain things. I do like it. Odin was right when he said there is something to be learned in these books. Number one, never question your patron. You'll only go wrong from there. Lol

I started reading in Wyrdwalkers by Raven Kaldera. It’s a book about northern tradition shamanism. According to him, the word heathen is a reconstruction of the lore based practice of mainly the Vikings and that his work isn’t considered heathen but he works with those particular deities, it seems mostly the Jotanar are who he works with because they predate the Vikings and have a shamanic type of feel to them.

He says in the intro that there are two kinds of shamanic practices. One is where you are a shaman practitioner but not actually a shaman and you practice the way you want or the way you need to according to your life. The second is an actual shaman, someone chosen by the deities to represent them and people. He says that real shamans are people who go through an extreme amount of difficulties and tests in order to attain knowledge and power for the deities and the people they serve. He says that shamans are either servants or partners to the deities and that you cannot just quit that practice whenever you want or you will get sick and die.

I’m not really sure how I feel about it. I suppose there are sides to the gods and goddesses that I work with which I have not or will not experience. It’s really harsh the way he puts some of it but he says that the practice isn’t a religion, it is who you are and who the deities make you to be and that you have great power but you can’t use it however you want.

I think it’s going to be an interesting read even if I might disagree with some of the things he says. I believe and feel (and have also been told by Odin) that there is something to be learned here.

Some New Books for Study

Just bought some books! Pathwalkers guide to the nine worlds, Wyrdwalkers, Wightridden, all by Raven Kaldera. Taking up the runes by Diana Paxson. Finally, Dictionary of northern mythology by Rudolf Simek.

Anyone read these books?

I like to read things for my self, I know there has been a lot of skepticalism and disagreements with some of these books. I believe knowledge though exists everywhere. We all have something to learn from one another. Like Odin, I often find my self searching for knowledge and thirsting for it. When I buy a book, it's because I find it interesting. I don't take others thoughts about it to much and leave my self of ever buying a book in which I could of learned something interesting. After all, the things in books are usually of peoples personal perspective and I often see them as such. I don't find their perspective necessarily wrong, but I do however see it as just their way if it ends up where I dislike it. At least then, it's of genuine dislike, not because someone told me it was bad. Tis all experience! Learning never ceases!
