well, that was until he met her. seven-feet-tall, alien, also warrior, pretty, beautiful, gorgeous, very nice, very loving, loyal, her. can you believe his pathetic loser self managed to pull that?
neither does he. like, can you imagine it? he has a girlfriend, she's so pretty. he's loser. she's taller than him, dwarfing him by another foot, and he's got that height difference with her that you'll only see in a dark romance girlie's book.
except he's the girlie in the relationship.
their meeting had been a blessing for him, in his eyes. picture this, if you will.
jason had been patrolling that time, prancing about in crime alley when boom!
something just hit the asphalt of the road and made a semi huge crater, jason's first thought was maybe a meteor had come crashing down. or maybe a meta emerged and threw some shit and was causing chaos. though he scratched that idea pretty easily.
when he approached those two were actually crossed out. proving his theory was false; no meteor, no metas throwing stuff. except it's a tall woman, dressed in fabric and armor that's definitely not made from here. alien? possibly.
she looks like a human, sure, but those obsidian eyes that looked like galaxies were kept inside it when she opened them and looked at them suggested she really wasn't from here. not gotham, definitely not from earth.
her ashy skin suggested otherwise too. and probably not when she stood and dwarfed him, not by the language she spoke either when she came close to him.
she had spoken in an unfamiliar language from earth itself, yep, definitely an alien. he debated calling bruce and asking if any of his alien co-workers knew what language she was speaking but ultimately decided against it in the end.
so of course, what did he do? report it to bruce—take her back home! wait, what. oh yeah, turns out when he decided in finality that this woman was not at all human and probably is not used to any of the customs here on earth, leaving her unattended and alone would be extremely irresponsible.
oh, yeah, he also found out she could understand him when he used gestures so she's very intelligent and seeing that his motorcycle might not fit both of them when he led her to his ride, she just went and pushed up the ground and kinda floated there and stared at him. like a silent way of her saying, "i think we can manage by doing this."
in the end, they got back to jason's apartment with her trailing jason in the air while he rode his bike. jason had to make sure that he was discreet with sneaking her inside his apartment so they just used the fire escape, her flying to it and crouching so she can fit her body into it.
and then, there she was. standing in the middle of his living room, looking out of place in such a small space. she stuck out like... a light pole. clad in armor and hair spilling out in waves.
jason stood in front of her, trying to figure out what to do. in the end, he just told her to stay still while he figured something out. using gestures to communicate, it ended with her just sitting on the couch.
jason meanwhile, decided to take a bath just to clear his head. he was thinking what to do with an alien inside his own. who was possibly a warrior based on her outfit.
when he came back to the living room, she was still there, but she was standing again, hands on her back.
when she spotted him, she came close to him, opening her mouth to speak. at first, jason thought she would speak in that alien language but no. she tells him her name, too alien in nature. and after, "i am from the planet svahatarkon. may i ask what this planet is?"
jason stared at her, vasa what. also, how did she learn how to speak english?
"how did you know how to speak english?" he asked, curiosity webbed in his voice. after all, earlier she couldn't even understand him without the gestures.
her mouth formed an 'o' shape, before replying. "the artifact you call 'a book', i absorbed its writings and fed on it to be able to understand your language." jason's eyes trailed from her and onto the book that he left there.
"my species can absorb knowledge by touching." she added, tilting her head. jason nodded his head, "well, to tell you, sweetheart, your species isn't exactly familiar here. so, if you want to fit in here, we've got to give you a proper name."
her mouth formed that shape again, stiffly standing. "would you give me the honor of bestowing one upon me? i am not familiar with the customs of your people."
jason thumbed his chin, "well, you know, y/n would really fit you." she smiled, easy. "it sounds pleasant, i am grateful. may i ask what your name is?"
jason looks back at her, captivated by her eyes. "jason... jason todd." she takes his arms in hers. "what a pleasant name, it is joyful meeting you."
and jason feels pleasant. "yeah, nice to meet you too, sweetheart."
which is how they got here, eight months after that meeting, jason kept housing the alien who now went by y/n as to blend in to human customs.
not to mention, the alien also began to aid jason in his missions as red hood. swooping in when the mission became too difficult or if it needed much more than his brute force or his guns.
and somewhere in those months, that simple alien and human companionship had evolved into an alien and human romance.
in his defense, he didn't expect it either.
it was a barreling force that swept over him like harsh waves on rocks. whenever she looked at him with that gaze like he was the only person in this world. the way she curiously ask him about humans. god, he was hopeless in her presence.
for all the training he had, the walls he built around himself and his heart, she had easily broken them like dams.
the revelation came one night during a mission, jason had been cornered somewhere during the mission. and the alien swooped in to save him.
using her alien strength, and abilities, the alien knight flew him away to safety, holding his body closely. "jason, you are safe now."
the woman flew to a rooftop, settling him against the stone gently and started to help heal him. jason wrenched his head up, staring at the alien crouched over him, hands working.
god, she was so beautiful. so hauntingly beautiful. galaxies in her eyes, voice like a lullaby, body like stars. god, he's hopeless. hopelessly in love with her, drowning in it.
it came in a blur, when she looked back at him, his mind blanked out and he kissed her. she froze, and he drew back. shit, did he mess it up? ah, fuck it.
"i love you." he breathed, hoping that just as she was alien but behaved like humans, she felt human enough to feel love as well. "ever since you fought with me in that warehouse, i loved you. when you said hello to me, i already knew i was doomed."
her face softened, and that serene smile that fed him butterflies like the sun does to a plant. his anchor, his sun, his love.
god, he adored her.
and in a second, her lips were on his now. a silent proclamation of her own, that the feeling was mutual. she pulled back, hands coming to intertwine with his. "i love you too, my red knight."
his other hand came to wrap around her waist, pressing her body close to him, encompassing his, legs on both sides of his body, hair falling around them like stars in the sky.
"i am guessing this is what your kind calls a star-crossed lovers?" she suggests, head pressed onto his chest, hearing his heart. the way it beats, just for her.
and jason smiles, pupils dilating like he was high off of her. "yeah, i guess we are, sweetheart." and for all that talk of him not deserving love, it appeared as if now, he wanted it. wanted it from her, his alien.
lovers at first sight, in love forever.
