Standard warm-up with the friday crew and then we drilled some basic passes.
Place your left foot to opp’s side, your right foot between opp’s legs and bend that right leg so your knee is in their business.
With left hand, grab outside of pants by their right knee. With right hand, grab low on opp’s left collar (by belly or hip).
Kick back with left leg and push opp’s right knee down to make space to pass to their side.
Bring your left shoulder to their solar plexus while maintaining grips.
If they defend by blocking your shoulder, bring right knee to their belly while maintaining your grips and dropping your weight and looking straight ahead.
Standing Open Guard Pass:
Grab inside of opp’s pants by both knees
Push forward and then pull back as you jump back with all your weight
Once opp’s feet are planted, roll your left elbow over their knee (maintaining grips) and pass to the side. You can go to full side control or knee on belly.
We also worked a variation grabbing opp’s ankles and “cheating” in with the same concept. Then we paired up with upper belts on their backs and the lower belts had to try to pass them. Never got a chance to apply the techniques we drilled, but it was all the same concept. Great class!
