X-Files Meets OUAT
Okay so I see this
And I immediately think of this
And now I want a Crossover fic (this started out as throwing out an idea and the next thing I knew I had a whole plot...)
Mulder and Scully go to Maine after a young man named Greg Mendel contacts Mulder about an entire town being somehow invisible. Scully helpfully points out how scientifically this is impossible. But of course they go anyway, cause that's what they do!
Scully's skepticism goes into overdrive when she discovers that "Greg" is actually Owen a young man who spent years in therapy after his father abandoned him in the very woods where he claims there is a town. She thinks it's clear that he has suffered a break with reality. Greg takes them to the spot where he last saw his Dad. They confront him and he tells them the whole story of his childhood. And he knows it sounds crazy but he asks them to believe. Mulder understands unexplainable things happening to you as a child and how they change you and drive your entire life. But he tells Greg that whatever happened in the past there is nothing in the woods now.
They all go back to the hotel. But the next morning Mulder drags Scully out of bed to inspect the stretch of road one more time. They are just off the road inspecting something in the woods when a late model Mercedes appears out of thin air, driven by a black haired woman. They follow her to an adoption agency in Boston. (And there would some awesome philosophical talk while they staked her out.) When she stops to eat lunch the approach her and have a conversation. It's clear she knows who Greg is even though she lies through her teeth. But they do manage to find out her name and the name of the town matches what Greg had told them.
They follow her back to Maine Mulder making the case to Scully that Greg is not delusional or lying. Of course at the town line her car disappears again and even though they drive that stretch of road for another two hours they find no sight of her.
The mystery remains.
They tell Greg what happened. Scully expressing that there is no scientific explanation for what they saw. That's when Greg decides to get help from more unconventional sources....
