To draw water / (X)-sites 2021 Temporary sculpture on site in Strömsfors June 22 - November 7 2021
Over the last years, we have worked quite a bit with public sculpture in both urban and forest contexts, both within our own (Material) Site Recordings project as well as a commissioned sculpture project in Bua.
We have the together-work method that builds on the dialogue between us, the material, the site and its inhabitants both human and others. We work directly on site, without sketches and plans, like drawing where the forms, nodes, relations and connections are allowed to grow with them in a rhizomatic process.
On the site of Strömsfors, outside Svenljunga we have worked with 200 wooden latches connected with screws. The work To draw water is a structure that moves along the river Assman, Strömsfors in an inconsistent movement of lines, joints and openings. The structure is both a barrier towards the stream as well as an invitation to come closer and experience the moving water between the lines of wood.
This project has presented an interesting challenge with its larger sizes of the material. We have worked on several sculptures with wooden laths that are 180 cm long and attached together with cable ties, and now we worked with latches that are 480 cm long and joined them with screws. It has made the structure longer / bigger, but also a bit more unpredictable in its form. Thru this sculpture we added a new size of wood for our ongoing investigations of the spatial drawings.
