With Margaery’s brothers now at court, Jaeyi was finding herself with more free time than ever - the two younger ones were so protective of their sister, and often dismissed her so they may talk privately. It did not bother the Redscale, for all the interesting bits were shared with her anyway by her lady, and it gave her time to herself that was a welcome commodity these days.
She had already visited the baths, purchased some new earrings from a merchant outside the keep, raided the kitchens for the little orange tarts they made here which she loved so much, and was now returning to her small chambers to pour over the books Margaery was teaching her to read in the Common Tongue. A tune escaped her lips almost without her thinking, and though she had not been blessed with a good voice by any means, she smiled and continued to sing it - a tune she had learned in Yunkai from the closest thing to a mother she had had since Yi Ti. The original words had been in the Summer Tongue, and Jaeyi did not know what they meant anymore, but the sounds remained deep within her, sung softly as her wounds were tended to after the brutal fights in the pits, and she recited them as she remembered while she walked, the metallic slapping of her sword against her thigh keeping time.
When she heard footsteps, and looked up to see a woman in noble finery coming around the corner ahead of her, she shut her mouth rather abruptly, bowing her head. “Apologies, my lady.” She said, in the respectful tone she had learned as a pit slave in Yunkai and perfected as a sworn sword in King’s Landing. “I had not thought there was anyone around to hear my tuneless screeching.”
