Hi, thanks for keeping up this super blog :) I have quite an open ended question for you. My way of writing tends to be that the location stays in a small area so that I can explore the characters more rather than explore the setting. Do you have any advice, tips or things that I might want to keep in mind when writing? I've only just started writing more often as a hobby, so your help would be very much appreciated!
I think the important thing to remember is that there still needs to be a strong plot, with complications, developments, and conflicts. The difference in writing a story with a minimal setting, like the one you’ve described, is that the plot/conflict is much more internally focused. You may not be exploring the setting, per se, but you will need to take the time to explore your characters and their internal worlds in some form or fashion.
Also bear in mind that with a minimal setting like this, you have the opportunity to really make the setting reflect the plot and the characters. Think about giving that setting some symbolic significance and really having it be a physical manifestation of whatever conflict is occurring within the narrative. (Not a *must* of course, but something that can be very interesting.)
