Online Petition Demands XBox One to Reverse Their Online Policy Reversal
The Xbox One has been plagued by problems ever since announcements have been made regarding it. There is only a single Xbox 1 controller included, for instance, and that has to some grumblings among the player base who intend to play games that need multiple Xbox 1 controllers. There has been unanswered questions regarding how games will be new or different, and what makes the new system worth upgrading to. There was also a huge row between the company and fans regarding its "always online" policy, and how CD based games were going to be treated.
What Was The Argument?
The argument, to be told by fans of the upcoming Xbox One, was going to be an end to console gaming as people know it. The system would require players to have a dedicated access to the Internet, and to connect once per day in order to keep their account refreshed and in the black. The camera was going to be on at all times, and one of the biggest deal breakers for many players (over and above the Xbox One controller thing) was that the game wouldn't play older games at all from the Xbox 360. Additionally, physical games were to be downplayed, with games being downloaded offline. Used games were to be phased out, and the ability to sell physical CDs back to a store was to be limited. The sheer outcry over this made Microsoft pull a 180 on their policy, and these elements have since been changed back (though players still only get a single Xbox One controller as part of the package).
So Who's Unhappy?
You can't please everyone, and nowhere is this clearer than in the world of video games. When Microsoft relented and altered its release plans, it also cut a single feature that many gamers were looking forward to. The Family Plan, as it's referred to, allowed players to access their games and Xbox Gold standing with up to 10 other people. However, it was scrapped as part of the reversal that was part of the base's popular demand.
It would have been a necessity for those who were gaming almost entirely off the Internet and Internet based content; like being able to use multiple people on a Netflix account. There are gamers who feel that feature is better than everything the reversal led to, and are petitioning for a reversed reversal.
