Sony Shoots Slings and Arrows at Microsoft, but the Xbox One Play Station 4 Controller Debate Is Still Up in the Air
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House kept up Sony's rhetoric campaign against the Xbox One,saying "While others have shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining policies and a model that is fair and in-tune with consumer desires" at the Gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany.
This dig calls back to Microsoft's shifting stances on many Xbox One features, such as regulated game sharing and always-on console connectivity, which Microsoft has since phased out due to consumer outcry.
Despite many similarities between the two consoles, more information has been introduced to keep these two giants at each other's throats. New controller information is out, and despite the similar size, these two pieces of hardware could not be more different.
A poll taken by Polar has put consumer preference for the Playstation 4's DualShock 4 over the Xbox One's controller by almost a margin of three. This may be due to certain drawbacks to the Xbox One controllerthat make it a less-complete controller or a more expensive one, depending on your perspective. While initially the same price at a hard $60, the Dualshock 4 is rechargeable and comes with the recharge cable. The Xbox One controller runs on AA batteries and requires an extra recharge pack to add a feature the PS4 controller comes with.
However, Microsoft recently said that their Xbox One controllers were sturdy enough to last seven to ten years. Microsoft claims this is due to superior construction and extensive physical testing. Although potentially a small incentive when new consoles are coming out every few years, it may be a significant bonus in the eyes of many hardcore gamers. In the hands of many gamers, the seven to ten years claim may seem dubious, but if the promise can be kept, it would amount to a large savings for many overzealous gamers who are less than gentle with their hardware.
