Sometimes Fili thinks that he will always associate the smell of food with Bilbo. The hobbit's house was the first time he'd ever seen that much food, and now the smells of cheese, of meat, of bread, of fish will always make him think of Bilbo and of the very first time they met.

“So, have you gained any confidence in my brothers leading skills?” Frerin asked the hobbit as he rode up with his horse, side to side with Bilbo’s pony and looked down to the hobbit. Grimm shook his head and slowed down his pace a bit to match that of the pony. “After he got lost, twice in the Shire? Must be comforting knowing that he is the one leading is across Middle Earth isn’t it?” Frerin asked before laughing, not really caring if Thorin heard or not. Thorin knew that Frerin bantered his leading skills at every opportunity he got and had since long given up on stopping Frerin.
