Experienced groomed ski trails for the first time today... and wow. That’s very different then backcountry xc-skiing. I certainly see that there is a lot of room for improvement but I sort of love that, growth is never a bad thing. Plus, honestly, I’ve been so inspired by Jonathan Van Ness learning to figure skate, seeing how his skills have improved week after week is empowering (in addition to the fact that he shows we are never to old to learn how to do something that brings us joy). When we put in the work we are rewarded with the slow and steady grace of achieving our goals. This winter’s goal is learning how to ski on groomed trails and how to go down little hills without falling (because believe me, I fell a lot today)! Even with all of my falls, got the bruises to prove it, I still felt like it all was worth it. I can see small measurements of improvement. And hopefully next winter will be spent on improving my distance and time. But... I’m not going to get ahead of myself, going to enjoy the practice of where I am right in this moment!
