Steve Johnson's XFX made a set of full-body puppets to realize the alien Sil in Species (1995). The puppt's limbs and body parts could come apart to be reassembled, and its movements were controlled via rod puppeteering and marionette puppeteering. The animatronic head was cable-controlled for its facial movements.

The puppet's parts were translucent, as per HR Giger's wishes - it helped that Johnson had realized similarly translucent aliens for James Cameron's The Abyss.

The Sil puppets limbs were made out of clear plastic, and foam rubber for the joints. However, its translucent 'organic' regions were made out of nylon hose!

Sculpted maquette by Bill Corso (as part of Steve Johnson's XFX) for an early version of An American Werewolf in Paris.

American Werewolf in Paris went through many directors/writers - and effects artists. At this stage it was Tom Stern and Tim Burns (who had just directed/written Freaked), who had Johnson's XFX and Tony Gardner's Alterian listed to realize the werewolf animatronics, with Phil Tippett on-board for the CGI.

Stern & Burns wished to do away with the 'half-man, half-wolf' look, instead taking design elements from big cats, due to their nature as deadly predators.

Oath of Love Postponed

As everyone knows by now, Oath of Love has been officially postponed.

Last few days, XFX has been posting sunflowers in their posts, encouraging each other and keeping up hope. Xiao Zhan posted a message back today with sunflowers and Gu Wei 🌻 . It's beautiful, since it seems that he has been watching us and respected that his fans have been waiting peacefully for his works.

As expected, both XFX and Zimis (Yangzi fans) are very sad. It was beautiful to see the two fandoms work together for Oath of Love Promotion in Twitter and FB last couple of weeks. “thank you for making the waiting process beautiful” 🌻🥰

Let’s continue growing towards the sun & staying positive. Remember Xiao Zhan said “Waiting is such a romantic word”. So we’ll meet Dr. Gu at a better time ♥️♥️♥️

I'm just so very sad right now. Xiao Zhan has proven that no matter what storms may come, no matter the blocks in the pathway, he will continue moving forward, developing. Life is a marathon not a race, there will be more works, more meetings, and maybe more disappointments. Many new exciting turns and twists. It's thrilling to stan Xiao Zhan.
