I have been giggling over this for a few days now so the void can have it. It's unedited and may go through some changes by the time the fic is ready for posting. I wasn't going to touch this idea so soon. It was only a note that said "I want to do something with a huan". That's it. No narrative idea or plot. But I was going through my WIPs and ideas trying to decide what to work on next, and I had just happened to stumble across a post of someone looking for animal-companion stories. And then this scene just came to me, demanding to be written out and by the following day I had a story outline started and a few more scenes drafted. This particular story won't be a huge divergence to canon. Just a "what if" bit of fun.

The residents of the Burial Mounds were awakened in the middle of the night by the loud, furious yowl of an angry creature not previously among them. One resident in particular shot awake, swearing, as the creature on his chest dug its sharp claws in and screamed its displeasure directly into his ear once more.

"Fuck! Yes! I hear you!" Wei Wuxian tried to pull the beast off himself, but it hissed and dug its claws in until they pierced his clothing to reach his skin.

"RWRAAAOWR!" The cat-like creature screamed in his face, ears angrily flattened back against its head, single eye narrowed and three tails lashing furiously. "RAWARAOOOWRAOW!"

Wei Wuxian winced and tried to detach the claws from the front of his clothing, "I'm sorry, okay! It all happened suddenly!"

"Rrrworw," the huan replied.

"Look, it's not like it was on purpose!" He finally managed to get the sharp claws out of his clothing with only minimal tearing. He sighed, he wasn't looking forward to having to fix that.

"Wei Wuxian!" Wen Qing snapped from the mouth of the cave, "What the hell is going on?!" Behind her a couple of the other Wen stood, sticks in their hands as weapons.

The huan looked up and blinked. "Rwawr?"

Wei Wuxian groaned, "See what you did?" he glared at the huan.

It merely blinked slowly at him, its tails still flicking in aggravation, "Wawraow," It replied. It wasn't the one who left without notice. It was the injured party! The abandoned one!

Wei Wuxian stood, scooping up the feline-looking creature as he did so, "I'm sorry everyone. This is Xiao-Mo."

"Xiao-Mo," Wen Qing's voice was dry. "Are you serious?"

"Yep."

"That's a huan."

"Yes."

"And it's named Mo." She gave him a look, as though she really didn't want to ask her next question, "Which character?"

Wei Wuxian just snickered, “Would you like to guess?”

Wen Qing reached up to pinch the bridge of her nose and took a deep breath, eyes closed, "I'm going back to bed." She turned on her heel, tossing back over her shoulder, "Keep your demon quiet." The men followed, tossing hesitant looks back at Wei Wuxian and the creature in his arms.

"Prrw?" Xiao-Mo asked.

Wei Wuxian just sighed, "You can be an awful lot of trouble. Do you know that?"

The huan started purring.
