Are you fucking kidding me? For the third time in a row, Konoha rewinds the tape and listens to it again, staring straight into the blank wall ahead of him while the words play once more in his ears. Very well hidden, too well hidden, in fact, at the very very end of a mix tape given to him a year prior, and which he had never listened to because good fucking luck finding a tape player in this day and age! But now, now that he knows what was on the tape, the little, innocuous addition right at the end, ater the last song... Konoha starts to understand why Ling has gone for such an odd, nigh impossible to actually use, present.
[to: Ling - 21:32] Oi, you’re not asleep yet, right? Can you meet me down by the bridge? It’s important!
What exactly Konoha is going to say, or do; he is not sure yet. He hasn’t figured it out, to be honest. All he is aware of is the frantic drumming in his chest; the pulsation at his fingertips as he holds out the tape when Ling finally emerges too, interrupting his restless pacing; the crimson splash on his cheeks as he abruptly asks: “I listened to it. Finally.” A year later, give or take. Talk about poor timing. “I listened to the end, too.” Amazing, right? One of the last mysteries of their highschool days, finally resolved thanks to a resourceful college classmate. Konoha swallows, hard, the knot that formed in his throat. “... did you really give me a confession on a tape without knowing if I’d ever be able to listen to it??”
