Decided to try XP Pen22 (a cintiq alternative).
I want to write a review on how it draws and what it is like to use but sadly I’ve spent the last 2-3 hours trying to get the drivers to work. I downloaded from their site, I tried from the disc that came with it. Nothing. It mirrors my mac just fine, but does not react to pen.
No point in a tablet that doesn’t react to the pen. I won’t waste time telling you how it looks or feels like because without being functional it’s appearance doesn’t matter.
No troubleshooting online either. I uninstalled wacom drivers, tried all the mac drivers available on their site, have restarted, and turned off then back on, and unplugged everything at least 3 times.
I had been so excited to try this tablet out, I’d been reading and researching (the drivers issue has been a major issue for awhile, but I’d heard that the drivers issue was “much better now than before” and if this is “much better” than jfc I can’t image what before was like- they’re lucky they’ve sold any at all if it was more aggravating than what my last 2-3 hours have been like) and instead of experimenting with a shiny new toy I’ve wasted more than two hours on jack diddly fuck all.
*very slow and disgusted clap*
I am not a tech savvy user. I am the average joe. I am the indie maker who wants a nice shiny toy but can’t afford the big kids, so I go for the next best thing. I am their target market and I am unable to use their product.
I emailed their tech help, but they aren’t available at the moment. Hopefully I’ll be able to actually use the thing tomorrow. For my sake I hope it is something that can be fixed and I’ll be so magically won over by this thing that I shall regret every second I’ve been pissed off, because otherwise I just bought an expensive paperweight.
EDIT: My goal is to try and be as fair to this device as possible. So I got an email from XP Pen support first thing this morning (which impressed me, usually you have to wait awhile to get tech help). They were friendly and helpful. Turns out my problem was with the USB cable. I swapped it out with a spare and the tablet is reacting. I unfortunately won't get a chance to really play with it until tonight after work but I feel much better about my purchase now- especially considering their tech support is solid.
