His mood had been rather poor since the Chief’s departure, a fact which Atem’s caretakers had been quick to note. The Gerudo boy disliked it when his mother left, and even more so when Urbosa didn’t give him many details on where she was going and how long she’d be. He’d been told to be patient, that the Chief would return as soon as she could, and that sulking wouldn’t bring about her arrival any faster.
Of course, that information did very little in terms of quelling his bad mood. Those left to watch over the boy until their Chief returned could do nothing in terms of lifting his spirits, and so they'd resigned themselves to simply keeping an eye on him in the meantime.
The boy had still been tucked into bed when his mother’s form slipped into his room, as they were still in the wee hours of the morning. Atem had never been one for rising early, but the sound of Urbosa’s voice had him stirring, amethyst eyes blinking as wakefulness slowly returned to him.
“Mama... ?” came the child’s groggy inquiry, and sluggishly did the little boy sit up and rub at his eyes. Glancing towards his doorway, Atem’s gaze soon fell upon Urbosa’s form, and as his sleepy mind registered that she had, at last, returned, it widened. It took but seconds from there for the child to leap from bed, rushing towards her so that he might throw his arms around her legs, squeezing tightly.
“Mama, you’re home! Where’d you go?! Why were you gone for so long?!”
