A door shuts softly behind her as keys drop from her hands onto
a table. For a moment she waited for a figure she’d grown to care
for appear around the corner, but when she didn’t she found it rather
odd.
Her voice was a little louder this time as her bag landed on the floor
next to her boots. Either he had stepped out or he fell asleep. Both
weren’t very plausible when he knew she would be there.
Turning the corner into the living room everything was the way it had always
been, neat in places and chaos in others. Her things litter the room as she
was going to be moving in soon.
Making her way up the stairs she saw the door to his office open and pushed through
the door to see his head down and papers scattered over his desk. She laughed
since she had always told him not to work so hard or else he would fall asleep on
his desk sooner or later. She thought about waking him up and decided against it,
even if she was here Hope needed sleep more than he needed her.
Pulling the stool that sat in the corner of the room over next to him she just looked
at him for a moment when something hit her.
She knew deep down that she truly loved Hope, but she had always waited for that moment
when it just hit her. She loved the way he spoke to her and how no matter how long
they’d been together he still got nervous and tripped over his words.
It was the way he smiled at her, the way he laughed when she tried to comprehend
anything scientific
She wanted to blurt it out even if he wouldn’t hear it, yet she didn’t want to wake him up
either. So she just lay her hand on his shoulder and muttered words she didn’t know
if they were reciprocated just yet, but she knew someday he’d love her like she loved him.
