Five Kisses ask (1/5) - Sara & Ava
Sara took in a slow, quiet breath, blue eyes trained on the small group that was walking ahead of her. She watched the rest of her team chatting and kidding around, elbowing each other as they shared a laugh or a joke, the tension gone from their bodies now that the mission was finally over.
The job hadn’t been too out of the ordinary and, on the contrary, it had been pretty tame, compared to some of the craziest things they had been forced to face through the years. However, it had turned out to be much longer than they had anticipated and the frustration had risen more and more, keeping them all constantly on the edge. Sara herself, despite her deeply rooted training, had found it hard to keep the need to rush things at bay in some moments so that they could finally pack and leave that particular corner of the timeline.
The Captain ran a hand through her hair, her lips twitching in the shadow of a smile as he watched Nate and Ray playfully shoving each other. If they had done that very same thing just a couple of hours before, Mick would have probably set them on fire, as a testament of how tense the mood had been. Now, Rory was more than content with just ignoring them and with focusing on the flask he and John were passing back and forth in a companionable silence.
And now that was a small miracle in its own.
Her quiet musings were interrupted when she realised that one of the members of her team had slowed down their pace, putting more and distance between themselves and the group until she had come to stand by her side.
The unspoken question in Ava’s eyes was clear. Everything alright?
Sara merely offered a small nod in response. She was fine. Perhaps a bit tired and in desperate need of a shower, but her team was safe and sound and they were done and ready for a break, so she really was.
The silhouette of the Waverider appeared at the end of the path they were walking along, the main hatch already opening, ready to welcome them home.
The thought caused a gentle warm to spread in the Captain’s chest and the curl of her lips turned into a fully fledged smile. Her hand shot out, grabbing Ava’s fingers to hold her back as the others started to board the ship. The stars were shining brightly above them, undisturbed by any sort of light pollution, and Sara couldn’t help thinking how their glow cast an almost magical hue over everything around her, including her girlfriend.
Her capable, skilled, gorgeous girlfriend.
Sara’s free hand fisted, lightly but steadily, in the lapel of Ava’s jacket and she pulled the taller woman down for a kiss. Her eyes fluttered closed as soon as their lips touched and she savoured the way their bodies melted into each other.
Yes, everything was alright. How could have it been otherwise when she was holding the woman of her life in her arms?
