seungwoo sacrifices wooseok first.
if asked he’d call it self-preservation instinct, and then laugh, because seungwoo? self-preservation instinct? but what is he to do when faced with a zombie hoard other than push his poor, clueless friend into their path and yeet make a break for it, saving himself?
seungwoo always did care more surviving in video games than in real life, at least until wooseok.
“then sacrifice your life!” he declares, then follows it up with what is essentially muahahaha.
it didn’t happen overnight, no-- literal blood, sweat and tears poured out from the moment they met until now just to keep seungwoo alive. wooseok did it tirelessly, always faithful, even over seungwoo’s stupid, selfish choices. it happened with wooseok, crying over wall-e on his couch, and wooseok greeting fred every day, and more exhausted, begrudging trips to the grocery store-- wooseok cleaning his apartment and shooting a man straight through the skull within hours of each other. maybe it was the daily phone calls when they didn’t see each other: the “are you okay?” “yeah,” exchanged over and over, that made him realize he had enough reason to stick around. it was enough to try, at least. it still is.
he sets his controller down in his lap, character immediately freezing in place, zombies rapidly threatening to overwhelm him. he wraps his newly freed arms around wooseok, pulls him in, and kisses the side of his face right as the game over screen flashes in the background. “hey-- you died--” wooseok argues weakly, or at least makes an attempt. he makes a fatal mistake, however, and turns to face seungwoo, so he kisses him, but for real this time.
“we died together; it’s romantic,” seungwoo counters, and it’s a joke, truly, for once. he kisses wooseok again, quickly this time.
when he pulls away, wooseok says his name. “seungwoo,” and seungwoo blinks at him attentively. “don’t die,” and if it was supposed to be a joke-- it really might’ve been, knowing wooseok --then it falls flat, but seungwoo knows it’s like his old jokes, the ones that always had a shade of truth to them. that comment runs deep for them, and seungwoo lingers, face too close to wooseok’s, but entirely at home in his space. he smiles more with his eyes than his mouth.
“okay,” he says softly, to match his gaze.
wooseok blinks at him, surprised, but he smiles, equal parts shocked and hesitant. “yeah?”
“yeah,” seungwoo confirms, and he grins, and when he kisses wooseok again he feels his smile against his lips.
