"Oh, you didn't know?" Violet eyes wide, hand over her heart in the perfect portrait of concern, the smaller vampire would lean forward, voice lowering in a conspiratorial manner. "If you don't reach your yearly quota of seduced mortals, the king of vampires shall punish you by turning you into a fruitbat for eternity." A gasp. "I fear your time is already running out, hurry, before it is too late!" She is having way too much fun with this.
It doesn’t take a lot to fool someone so gullible. A blink of his eyes, countenance all but mirroring her own when the older vampire expresses such concern as if he’s overlooked a crucial detail and has precious little time to make amends. She is no bumbling fledgling such as he—surely the girl knows better?
“A quota?” he repeats quite utterly confused, elbows on his knees as he finds himself copying her body language, lowering his voice to match the conspiratorial hush. “There’s someone keeping track?” A tinge of increasing disbelief just as he breaks eye-contact to glance around, scan the crowds sauntering past them, carefree, never so much as pausing for a double take in the pair’s direction. No less befuddled than a second prior, Gabor would turn then to Clarisse once more: “Are you sure that’s real? I’ve been just fine the last couple years, I—I must have done it right, then?”
He must have, after all; he knows no better way to hunt.
