im not an “ash should battle absolutely perfectly all the time forever and if not he is a loser” kind of person i just. specifically don’t like it when gym battles do this sort of thing. im over it now tho because the rest of the battle is fun yipee

Just a random note on XY044, but did you notice that after Pikachu's final Iron Tail/Bone Rush clash, Lucario's left arm goes limp? Notice that Lucario only uses a one-handed aura sphere. Lucario also uses both hands to form the Bone club and even for Metal Sound. After that clash, it was only a matter of time before Pikachu won!

Wow! I went to re-watch that scene after you said that, since I never noticed it before! Good catch!

It falls right into line with Ash's strategy to confront Mega-Lucario to cause openings and wear him down, while striking from long distance when opportunities present themselves for him to sneak in unhindered thunderbolts!

And it was a nice touch by the animators! I love that repeated iron tails eventually dulled that arm of Lucario's!

My favorite part of this Gym Battle was the face of Lucario realizing its inevitable demise right before its to late to do anything to prevent it.

Also now that the dance strategy went belly up im guessing that Ash's *insert move here* tomb" tactic will be his signature thing for most of XY

I honestly think my only issue with that battle was the same with the Cyllage Gym, that being how it ended, just a random not built up thunderbolt attack ends the match and not like..something big? I dunno, the 'final attack' could've been better but otherwise it was a good match.
