Yachimun
Yachimun (やちむん) are Okinawan ceramics. There is a town called Yomitan on Okinawa Island which is famous for making them.
I love the distinctive design and patterns on yachimun. Also, they are made to be very sturdy and long lasting, so you feel a bit of weight holding them, but not uncomfortably so. They sometimes have a little texture too- my coffee cup is slightly rough around the edges. If you tap yachimun with a spoon, it makes a nice deep sound. Using yachimun for me is a very enjoyable sensory experience, and I appreciate all of the hard work of the craftspeople who made them.
