Could you give me the sources where I can kearn more about Dwarka and Krishna in Dwarka. I feel I don't know them enough and it's bothersome. Lol
And what's your thought on the Oligarchy system? How was it established ? His role as a profound political figure in the cousil (and other Yadavs) there's so much for me to discover
Sure! ❤️ The two primary texts on Krishna's life are Harivamsha and Bhagavata Purana. Apart from these, the stories are on-and-off repeated in many other puranas, but these are the primary sources, apart from obviously whatever you'll see in Mahabharata. Once you've read these three, you can go on to WisdomLib to find how each character is represented in other Puranas.
Their oligarchy system started after the time of King Satvata. He was the last great Yadava emperor, after a long history of a Yadava-Haihaya coalition that was dwindling as the Kuru-Panchala sector became more powerful by the day.
Satvata's sons were Bhajina, Bhajamaana, Divya, Andhaka, Devaavriddha, Mahaabhoja, and Vrishni. From their generation on, the descendants of these sons eventually organize into 18 distinct families (in Krishna's time) who ruled over a large geographical area ranging from the modern-day Delhi-Meerut area to parts of UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP and Maharashtra.
Over time, different families join and break out of the coalition, but, aside from Kamsa's stint, for most of that time the Yadavas rule with the same constitution and court system, while each family have some extra control of their home province. For eg. the west Mathura region was controlled by Vasudeva, Akroora ruled closer to Saurashtra, Ugrasena in Mathura-proper etc.
Fun fact, Krishna had a special parliament building, similar to the Roman senate, built in Dwarika, which was named Sudharma.
