Apparently one of the 100 Kauravas was named Karna. The poor lad must have felt so neglected when Karna (Vasusena) showed up and Duryodhana probably completely forgot he had a blood brother by that name.

Saw this on insta and now can't get the image of Arjuna sitting behind Krishna driving a stolen Activa into battle
Hello! I am obsessed with Krishna!!! I was just wondering if there any explicit mention of Krishna having a favourite wife? I have seen some people claim that he loves Sathyabhama more and others say that Rukmini is his actual favourite.
Hi! 💖
Krishna does tell Satyabhama, in private, that he loves her the most. This happens in Harivamsha when Satyabhama was seething because Krishna gave Rukmini the one Parijat flower that Narada brought as a gift for him. This was more damage control than a genuine confession or something. He had made a social faux pas by sort of implying that Rukmini is his favourite by giving her that flower, and he was anxious to restore the balance.
Also, that entire mess was squarely Narad's fault, who commented that Krishna giving that flower to Rukmini was a disrespect to all his other wives, and that was what Satyabhama took offence to. Krishna wasn't a king, and so legally, there was no scope for anyone to be the 'chief wife' [though Rukmini usually participated in the official religious activities with him], and so Krishna not immediately correcting Narad was a legitimate insult to all the other wives.
In general, the extra attention that Krishna gives to Satyabhama is also a case of 'ask and you shall receive', and she is the only one who demands all of that from him. He still performs tapasya for the other two, but it's focused on having kids and seems a bit mellow when faced with Satyabhama's public dynamism.
Additionally, the earliest mention of any of Krishna's wives [outside of literature] is in the 4th-century CE Tosham rock-edict, where Krishna is described as a bee hovering over the lotus-like face of Jambavati. The fact that the oldest mention of a wife of Krishna's is her, it does speak to me on some level about the public perception of their relationship.
I can see that since Rukmini is his first wife, and her descendant is the one who inherits Mathura after everything, she has had a larger 'divine' presence in the subcontinent. Satyabhama, on the other hand, makes Krishna reaffirm her rights as his wife most often, and she's the most outgoing one of all the wives. This makes her the most visible.
Krishna participates in the swayamvara of Lakshmana, wins a challenge to marry Satya-Nagnajiti and kidnaps Shaivya-Gandhari from her swayamvar. The other wives unfortunately get lumped in together as a single faceless entity that has not much bearing on Krishna's daily life.
Now, obviously, Krishna, the man with 16108 wives, would not publicly acknowledge any one of them as his favourite, but his life did ordinarily revolve around the first three. Also, in a polyamorous relationship like theirs, loving each other would definitely look different, and we obviously do not need to compare [the one time Krishna tried behaving with Rukmini the way he behaved around Satyabhama, she had a panic attack and fainted], and neither will an analytical love scale make any sense.

Sanjaya Mahabharata - Part 16 [Last]
This is unquestionably my favourite chapter in any old book I've read so far!
Draupadi’s War
Next chapter is Draupadi's War which was supposed to be after Abhimanyu's death but they pushed it to the appendix for some reason. Narad went and told all the women in Dwarka about Abhimanyu and they all blamed Yudhishthira. They also blamed Krishna for keeping the Pandavas hypnotised with his chakra so they didn’t rebel/criticise him.
All the women of Dwarka are now going to Kurukshetra because Abhimanyu was their son too, when his deadbeat father never bothered to check up on him and his mum.
CHITRALEKHA IS BACK. She's going to use her magic to transport the queens and the army to Kurukshetra.
Ugrasen: women fighting is paap, Krishna will kill me. Rukmini: so why did Parvati kill all those demons then?
Ugrasen also agrees that Krishna is at least partially responsible for Abhimanyu's death.
They all first went to Draupadi, Uttara and Subhadra and consoled them
Uttara too blamed herself for Abhimanyu, saying she must not have been a sati enough, that poor girl. 😭 Uttara is lamenting that she should've run away with him before the war.
Satyabhama took her back and then divided the army. Satyabhama, Jambavati, Subhadra and Revati became the sainyadhipatis [army commanders]. Draupadi became their primary Senapati and Rukmini led the entire charge.
Narada brought Rukmini the same kavach Arjun used against the nivatkavaches...it is invulnerable to human weapons.
Mitravindra became Draupadi’s sarathi. They were compared to Krishna-Arjun and Indra-Matali. Draupadi was placed at the same pedestal as Arjun, with Usha and Prabhavati protecting her wheels.
Since it was a moonless night, Uttara prayed to Chandra, who being Abhimanyu himself, now reunited with the 15/16th of his power increased his shine so it looked like daytime.
Satyabhama and Kalindi took care of the right of the vyuha, Subhadra and Uttara protected the left.
Duyodhan was sleeping on a makeshift bed, when the women went and roared there and woke him up. Soon, they had the Kauravas surrounded!
Draupadi hit Duryodhana with 5 arrows and Ashvatthama commented only he, Arjun and Draupadi knew this trick. Everyone is warned Duryodhana that since she's pestered Arjun to train her, she's equally as good as him. Draupadi told Duryodhana she's shall fulfil Bheem's vow and break his knee, as well as drink Dushy's blood.
Subhadra said she'll kill Jayadrath.
Everyone had started with ooh we can’t fight women, but Duryodhana called them all idiots if they were going to just stand and take it and told them to get ready.
Draupadi went and apologised to Drona in advance. Drona blessed her that she will win this fight. Then Draupadi and Drona did the pehle aap ka dance with who will fire first.
Drona: You are a naari, you go first. Draupadi: I am your sevak's naari, so you go first.
I think it’s implied here that she also attended his school with Dhrishtadyumna. Draupadi only ended up hitting first.
Draupadi couldn’t decide whether or not to kill Drona, but Drona fainted so they just moved on.
Prabhavati told Draupadi to kill Drona now and do an atonement for brahmahatya later. Draupadi also has tiger powers here, and is simultaneously a free elephant. I don’t like them continuing to call her Arjuni, but at least she's getting her due otherwise. She killed 4 times as many people as Abhimanyu. I feel bad for the regular soldiers.
Karna has a tiger on his flag, so Draupadi went to fight him, Karna is like no you’re my Bhabhi, if I fight you people will misinterpret that later and he just stood there refusing to fight.
Karna: I have a secret, that you will find out after Arjun kills me, I cannot tell you that now. If I tell you, then your Yudhishthira won’t be king.
And Draupadi let him go without any follow-up questions.
Chitra and Usha saw Draupadi faint in a battle with Ashvatthama and came to rescue her. Usha then hurled one of Dwarka's favourite mushalas...and Ashvatthama fainted. Draupadi then woke up and shot a trishoola and Ashvatthama went flying.
Draupadi told Duryodhana to come fight 'this dasi' if he dares, and then he ran away so she chased him for a while yelling: 'well don’t you want your dasi now?’.
All the soldiers started rebelling saying even Arjun's never scared them as much as Draupadi. Then the Kauravas plotted to pull an Abhimanyu and imprison Draupadi, but gave up on it almost immediately.
Draupadi hit Dushhasana with a gada, rendered him unconscious and sat on his chest just about to rip him with her nails when Mitravinda said that usurping one’s husband's vow is a sin. However, Draupadi did get to drag him around the field by his hair and kick him in the head.
Rukmini threw Duryodhana on the ground while fighting someone else.
Draupadi then dragged Duryodhana for only having knowledge about his own strength and never even wondering what the women were capable of. Draupadi was using a khadga to cut up individual soldiers but Mitravinda reminded her of a magic astra she's gotten from Arjun that helped.
Rukmini then gave Draupadi one nice long hug from her chariot...and they stood in a half-hug for a while.
Apparently Draupadi was an expert at mace-fighting as well and she and Duryodhana have it out. Duryodhana sent a Shaiva astra after Draupadi and Mitravinda jumped in
Satyabhama’s sarathi is Daruka's daughter.
Also I am seeing much similarities here with how Michael Madhusudhan Dutt wrote Pramila's expedition in Meghandbadh Kabya...some of the generic lines are even common!
Satyabhama then defeated Kripa, and Rukmini went to fight Karna.
Karna (angrily): You are too strong! This is unfair.
In response Rukmini broke 15 chariots of his back-to-back and Karna ran away. Then everyone is shot at her from all directions, and she was so skilled that it felt to her like a mild drizzle.
Uttara killed Rudradeva, Dushy's son, who killed Abhimanyu....she did it holding his hair and decapitated him with a khadga and tied the head to the hooves of her horse, while Usha made Jayadrath rub his nose on the ground. Then Subhadra jumped down from her chariot onto his chest and kicked him...and then fought him and finally tore open his chest and drank his blood and then gathered all the women (when Rukmini reminded her to keep him alive) and they tied him up, dragged him around with a bow around his neck and kicked him some more before letting him go.
Meanwhile, Krishna had gone to Dwarka with Daruka to fetch his army, in case Arjun didn’t make it the next day and was very confused when he arrived to find all the women missing.
Yudhishthira finally woke up near dawn and went to talk to the women and Rukmini tore him a new one.
Rukmini: one time ONE time Arjun goes missing and you do this, you are all useless and now we'll kill the Kauravas for you, we heard exactly how useful you all are at protecting our kids so we thought we'll show you how to actually do this thing.
Yudhishthira started crying. Then he managed to convince them to return and Arjun started crying.
Then finally the women all went back and the war resumed on the 14th day.
End of chapter.
Sanjaya Mahabharata - Part 15
Women's War
Rukmini and Satyabhama saw this and decided they’ll fight back instead of crying. I was excited for them to go to battle but I just didn’t expect the war to be against babies but great okay. Prabhavati, the girl who was hydrating Draupadi, is also excited for this.
Yudhishthira: women should not fight, let me go.
Rukmini: um...no thanks.
She led the charge because Draupadi is tied up in the rituals and cannot leave. All 16108 wives followed her. Now the babies are vulnerable cause ✨ motherhood ✨ 😭
Then all the women fainted. 😭 Apparently Krishna was only pretending so he got up and woke Arjun up as well. He then went and brought out Vivek's grandfather, who they had all this time and were hiding and Vivek just said sorry and gave in?
Apparently, this was ahankar-mochan for Krishna's wives. 😭 I am no longer excited, and they are no longer allowed in the yajna they have to go back to Dwarka and sulk.😔
Shakuni's wife almost killed Arjun with a khadga but got stopped.
Then everyone bathed Yudhishthira and Draupadi. If everyone gets 1 kalash each and everyone gets a turn...how soon are these two going to end up bedridden?
64 families have then been tasked with getting ganga water, so all the husbands have the ghats on their heads and their wives are just going for the funsies. The horse will also bathe with Yudhishthira. Krishna hung out with all of his wives...and Yudhishthira.
Rishis asked Rukmini that she finds even flowers heavy to bear in her hairstyle so how come she wasn’t complaining about carrying the water, and so Subhadra said the heaviest person, Krishna, bearing the whole universe, lives in her heart, so the water is nothing. Then Subhadra's continued…since Krishna also lives in Arjun's heart, and Arjun's pretty heavy himself, so technically, Subhadra’s the biggest weightlifter here.
So, then the horse was tied to [a possibly naked] Yudhishthira and Draupadi and they were all nonstop showered by Krishna.
They told the horse to please go to heaven by its own will. 😭 Thy made the horse touch Krishna's feet and listen to the Vedas.
Horse said he won’t. Nakul, apart from being a vet, can also talk to horses so he was then brought. The horse didn’t want to go to heaven because other horses go to heaven to see Krishna/Vishnu but Krishna's right here so this horse didn’t want to. He then settled for Krishna to stand in front of him when he is slaughtered. Bheem did it and milk came out instead of blood. The head of the horse flew into heaven and the soul of the horse merged with Krishna.
Then Yudhishthira gave his punya to Krishna
Krishna: Cool imma fly your corpse into heaven.
Yudhishthira: No, I wanna go up alive.
Krishna: Yeah we’ll see…
Dharma-the-Nakul came and told Yudhishthira his yajna isn’t as special as another yajna and went back to heaven.
Ashramavasika Parva
Bheem said he won’t let Dhritarashtra do the Ks shradhha from the royal coffers, and so Arjun gave from his salary. Dhritarashtra pretty much left him broke after this. Yudhishthira told them not to tell Dhritarashtra, so he thinks it’s from royal treasury only.
Then he, Kunti-Gandhari and Vidura went to the forest, and Sahadev cried at kunti but she wouldn’t listen.
Here Vyasa's rousing-the-dead magic is that everyone will see only the people they want to see, and then everyone died in the morning.
Kunti (to Yudhishthira): You are my problem actually, please gtfo.
Mausala Parva
Dwarka's omens were mice making tunnels in people's houses and making noise, and biting people in their sleep. Whenever Krishna tried to play panchajanya a host of donkeys appeared around him and started braying. I’m imagining him just expelling donkeys all day now. Krishna's chakra flew into heaven. Balram started drinking in front of Krishna.
Then the final brawl started. They threw Pradyumna's body at Krishna. 😭 Krishna went apeshit at everyone (I think he also accidentally killed Anirudhha) and Vajra and Daruka managed to stop him.
Arjun then arrived and Krishna said he was only alive cause he wanted to see Arjun. Arjun is like why are you crying aren’t you supposed to Yogeshvar etc and Krishna said please not now.
Krishna told Arjun to try and not be too sad when he's gone. Krishna went to sleep on a branch of a sala tree with his head placed on Arjun's lap. Then he got shot. He was dead, but then his soul took Arjun's hands in his and told him not to worry and went away with Indra. Arjun cried and fainted. Arjun said he doesn’t have any other friend than Krishna.
Of course, then we have much sati glorification. 😔
Arjun placed the women kidnapping in Panchal, and left Rukmini, Satyabhama etc in Satyaki's son's kingdom. The kidnappers are straight up gopas here.
Swargarohana Parva
Flashback:
Yudhishthira went to Krishna to ask him if Yudhishthira should go back to the forest. Krishna said no because twice a day messengers are coming from heaven to call him up.
Parikshit: why are you making me the king? Instead of Yuyutsu, Vrishaketu, Meghavarna etc.
Yudhishthira: cause Krishna said so.
Yudhishthira made the other five promise to not hurt any rakshas on the way even if they hurt them and them made them all take a vow of silence. One rakshas told them to walk under his feet as insult and they did it, but the rakshas decided to kidnap Draupadi. Draupadi gave up the silence vow and yelled for help but the brothers wouldn’t respond to her. Bheem came back after a while tired of waiting for Yudhishthira's go-ahead. He rescued and took her back.
Yudhishthira being a toddler: ooh you broke your vow now toh you are definitely not going to swarga.
(nevermind he also broke his vow WITH THIS)
Draupadi fell at Dwaipayana teertha, where Shuka was worshipping Shiva.
No one said anything to her at the time, Bheem only asked a little farther.
Yudhishthira said Draupadi only saw Arjun as her husband. Apparently, she's terrified of Bheem so never says no, she sees Yudhishthira as her father and the twins as her brothers. 😭
They then met one muni and Yudhishthira asked him to bless him so he can see Narayan, the muni said ok but told them to remember that it’s Krishna and Arjun not Krishna and Yudhishthira. Bheem then killed a Kirata person and that is why you don’t have trees on mountains.
Sahadev froze to death at Padmaragashila 😭 after Yudhishthira forced him to take a bath in a frozen lake. Yudhishthira said Sahadev was worried about battle scars marring his unblemished body and therefore he didn’t fight at 100% at Kurukshetra, and so he died.
Nakul also froze to death 10 yojanas later at Chandrakanta-Maniteertha. Yudhishthira said Nakul knew all of past, present and future and he never told anyone [ulta kar diya 😮].
Arjun fell at Padmaragashila (again?) and Yudhishthira said it’s because Arjun spent a good time in Amaravati while they were suffering in the forest.
Bheema fell near the Akshayvat at Chandrakanta-Manishila, and there was a landscape altering landslide cause of that.
Now Yudhishthira started crying because he's scared to go on alone and fainted.
He's like, Krishna you told me to get to Vaikuntha (he didn't, Yudhishthira yapped on his own), and now look what you did to my brothers. He didn’t give a reason for Bheem
Then he went to some rishi and Indra came down. The dog became invisible, boarded Indra's rath secretly, then became visible halfway through and gave Indra a mini heart attack. Indra beat up the dog and then was ashamed to realize it was Dharma in a really good disguise. 😭They said ok Dharma was pleased with Yudhishthira's pariksha, but no one asked him anything, it was all just Indra.
Yama then offered to make Yudhishthira king of Naraka and retire but Yudhishthira said No. Vaikuntha.
They just drove over Naraka on their way that’s it. Brahma also offered to give him his realm and retire…is this The Good Place cursed edition?
Vaikuntha looks exactly like Dwarka, and Vishnu did pranam to Yudhishthira.
Yudhishthira then asked where the others are and Krishna said, “I am them they are me forget about them,” and sent him with Garuda to take a bath in the Ksheersagar. When he came back and saw everyone who he had ever known.
Vishnu: You and I are not two bodies.
Yudhishthira: you and I are the same life-force.
Vishnu made Yudhishthira king of Shvetadvipa.
Arjun is still hanging out with a bow, and the twins just vanished...they don’t exist anymore. 😭 Either the author forgot or Yudhishthira forgot idk which is worse.
Sanjaya Mahabharata - Part 14
Ashvamedha Parva - Part 2
Then their horse drank water and became a mare and then drank some more water and became a tiger, then Arjun did a Narasimha prayer and restored it.
Then is the women's kingdom...they kidnap men who stray too close so they can have more kids. Apparently if a man lives there for more than a month they die.
Queen Pramila: I'll kill the horse if Arjun doesn’t have sex with me. Arjun: I'll die in a month then. Pramila: cool I'll kill myself too.
Arjun said okay to sex after the yajna, and sent her to Yudhishthira meanwhile. Then he went to a kingdom where everyone is born from trees, but they are born in the morning and die at night. There's one woman who used to be seeta's guard in ashokvan and got scared of hanuman on Arjun's flag. Then Arjun killed everyone.
Arjun then went to Manipur and is very happy that Babhruvahan doesn’t let lower caste people learn Sanskrit.😭 A bird died and dropped on Arjun's head as a death omen but Arjun didn’t listen.
Here Chitrangada an Varga are merged into one story, and apparently she and Arjun both abandoned Babhruvahana, but then he was adopted and raised by Uloopi.
She also hooked him up with the Manipur kingdom. Babhruvahana said sorry for taking the horse and Arjun kicked him in the head and called Chitrangada slurs. Babhru called Arjun a sinner for being a deadbeat dad, and then caught and imprisoned everyone except Vrishaketu and Arjun.
Then he killed Vrishaketu. Arjun started rolling on the ground with his head and crying. Arjun forgot all this astras and Babhruvahana said see, you called my mum a slur so even Krishna's not helping you [valid].
Then Arjun died. Chitrangada yelled at Babhruvahana and Uloopi told him to go to Patal to get Nagmani. Pundarik the nag, Uloopi's friend, bit Arjun and Vrishaketu to keep their bodies fine till they get back.
Dhritarashtra the nag didn’t want to give it but Babhru fought him and Uloopi's dad agreed and then Dhritarashtra stole Arjun's head.
Kunti saw Arjun's death in her dreams, Subhadra's jewellery fell off, and Karna's kavach-kundal that Kunti had put up on an altar also fell down.
Then Krishna went there via Garud and Yashoda, Devaki and Kunti went with him. Krishna completely lost it when he saw Arjun’s corpse, and finally he got up and gave all his punya from the years where he did not have sex and Arjun's head flew into his hand. Then Krishna woke him up by placing the Nagmani on Arjun's chest himself (after they did Vrishaketu). For the rest of the mission, Krishna hung off of him and refused to let him out of his sight.
Now Arjun's going to Ratnapur, whose king is also doing Ashwamedh so... 🐴 🐴
Ratnapuri's horse bit Hastinapur’s horse on the lips. Then they all stood there watching as the horses duked it out. Then Krishna told Arjun that this king is also Vaishnava. The prince is like my dad loves Krishna so I’m going to kidnap him and we're going to keep him as a pet.
Aniruddha, Pradyuma, Vrishaketu and Babhru all lost to this Tamradhhaj, king of Ratnapuri. Then Arjun came to fight, and Tamra pulled his rath into sky with a rope and threw it down. Arjun was freefalling and Krishna magically expanded his chariot like a net to catch him and his chariot. Tamra yeeted Krishna off his chariot with a mace in response. Then Krishna and Arjun are jointly attacked him. Tamra said he'll kill both of then if Krishna didn’t stop fighting and start driving so Krishna did that.
Tamra's father was planning to get Krishna possessed by Vishnu and do a yajna by tying him up for instant punya. I personally think an invitation would’ve been easier, but I am not the author.
He then kicked Krishna in the head and Krishna asked Arjun to stop zoning out and help! Then Tamra grabbed on to Arjun in a bear hug, so Krishna kicked him in the back and sent both of them rolling on the ground and then Tamra picked both of them threw them on the ground.
Tamra though Arjun would be a human shield but Krishna beat him up regardless. So, both of fainted, and Tamra went back with the horse.
Tamra's dad: Krishna chhorke ghoda le aaye? 🤬
Then Krishna took an old-brahmin disguise and Arjun's doing the shishya and they both went to the other yajna.
Krishna told the king, Mayurdhvaj, that his son was eaten by a lion and lion said he'll give back the son if he gets 50% of the king's body. His wife is like I’m your better-half, give me up. But the lion is a misogynist so this won’t work. The king then forced his wife and son to cut him in half. Krishna cursed the king because one drop of tear fell out of his left eye. The king is like see it’s not pain, the left side is just jealous that the right side is going to be used by a brahmin. Then Krishna appeared as Vishnu and held the wife, the king, the son and the machete in four hands and pulled them in for a hug.
Next they went to Veerbrahma's city, who has Yama as his son in law. Apparently his daughter was afraid of dying so she married Yama. Hanuman mushed Krishnarjun and Veerabrahma's chariots together with his tail. Then Veerabrahma hit Krishna (he's a Krishna-stan btw), so Krishna kicked him. Then they all made friends and Yama went back home with his wife.
After this they're going to Chandraharpur where the king Chandrahaas, orphaned as a baby, was abandoned in the forest by traitor ministers, and he ate a lot of shaligrams...so he became a Vaishnav.
[Link to his story]
Krishna, for once, anticipated them having to fight Chandrahas, and so he became Arjun's sarathi in full Vishnu four-handed mode. Chandrahas saw him and gave his wives to him.
Krishna: this is my second-body Arjun, go ahead, hug him.
Chandrahaas wanted to be with Krishna always, so Krishna took him along to fight the other kings.
On the other side, in Champkpuri, Sudhanva's son Vivek was just born and he wanted revenge. So, he has gathered an army of angry infants and is going to march on Arjun.
Apparently, Vivek is the reincarnation a son named Veechak of Indrajit who Ram had to fight and defeat while Seeta was giving her agni-pariksha. Krishna said they can’t defeat the baby, so Arjun wanted to fight the baby. Btw this IS an infant, they aren't even pretending he grew up or anything it’s just a very violent baby.
The babies got their education magically transferred into their brain from their mothers which was sweet. Apparently, he has not taken a bath after being born and has directly come to fight, so his body is invulnerable. He took out Arjun....so Krishna brought Hanuman in to fight. Arjun then came back and fought using Karna's old bow
Turns out their arrows are all just iffy about touching birth-blood so they are avoiding the kid. Then the baby fired a naag-paash so now Krishna and Arjun are both tied up and unconscious. Yudhishthira heard and also fainted. Nobody gives a damn about Arjun everyone's crying for Krishna. Bheem also fainted.
