This week’s #yaforadults is a tough one: I was so incredibly excited to read it because the premise and representation were so good, but it fell seriously flat for me. Which is why I, aka the queen of lists, will now give you some a quick pros and cons. If you’ve read, please let me know what you think! And of course, all are welcome to use the hashtag 📚 •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ + Some unique/uncommon racial, sexual, and gender representation + Lots of booze and mild promiscuity (always a win) + Often genuinely funny + The Grand Tour. THE GRAND TOUR. Sign me up. •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - The plot: why oh why did it have to become a stupid adventure with potentially world-changing consequences and poorly executed plot points? WHY. I would have been beyond excited to read the hilarious Grand Tour shenanigans of Monty and Percy, that is already enough. No need for a forced plot on top of what was a already a perfectly good storyline - The ending was beyond sugar sweet and ridiculous. Made me seriously roll my eyes - It deals with a lot of important topics (illness, race, female emancipation, sexual identity) but sometimes I felt like things were just thrown in and not treated appropriately. Maybe I’m just too old, but I wanted a smidge more depth, please and thank you •⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #thegentlemansguide #thegentlemansguidetoviceandvirtue #mackenzielee
