Prompt: 23. “You look like you’re on the naughty list… But man I’ve never met a kinder person”
Mysterious; my first impression of Lin Yanjun, that changed quickly. I met him on my second day of college, when I walked straight into him. He sat right behind me, on the first day and on that second day, I just had to walk into him with coffee in my hand. His white button up stained immediately. My eyes went wide, apologies start slipping out of my mouth before, I even look at the person I spilled it on. I looked up to see who I spilled my coffee all over and, see Yanjun, “Hey, don’t worry about it! Tide can get anything out-” I interrupted him with, “Well yeah, but I don’t want you to go around with coffee stains, wait-I have an oversized sweater, it’ll fit you, I bet” He shook his head at me, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine, what’s a little coffee stain?” I pulled it out, “Please?” He sighed, “If it makes you feel better” as we walked the rest of the way into class, into our respective seats he slipped it on, “How will I get this back to you?” He asked me, “Bring it to me in class tomorrow?” He scrunched up his nose, “But what if I want to give it to you sooner, so I don’t forget?” I thought about it for a second, before I had pulled out my phone and said, “Text yourself through my phone, so you have my number, we’ll exchange dorm numbers then.” He nodded the professor came in, and began their lesson.
After that incident, we texted each other for hours, he was hilarious, even if the jokes were stupid they could make me laugh, he has a way with words. He looked like a total bad boy, mysterious, white haired, tan skin, eyes that seemed to see right through you. But that last part was because he zones out. Now, I can see he is anything but mysterious, rather an open book, he would profess to you his life story if you’d hear it. Which I did, and I told him a lot about my life, we’d sneak up to the rooftop just chatting about our lives, what we want to be, who we truly are. Blankets wrapped around us as we exclaim our fears to the world, our happiness spilling from our lips.
He made me trust him, his aura makes me want to tell him everything I’ve ever been through, and I know he’d listen. Just how I listen to him ramble and rant how he doesn’t think he is good enough to be a rapper, and a singer. Which he is more than good, I would even go to say the best I’ve ever heard in my life. He’s soft, sweet, caring, a bundle of laughter, but he knows when to throw a punch. If I was being real, I think he is the guy of my dreams, but let’s keep that to ourselves.
It’s Christmas Eve, Yanjun and I didn’t head home, mine was to far away and his parents were on a vacation in Maui. I texted him to meet me up at the rooftop, I set up my phone to project movies with blankets and pillows and Christmas lights strung around the whole rooftop. He texts me back almost immediately that he’ll be up in a few.
He smiles at me shutting the rooftop door, surprising how they’ve never locked it. We sit there watching The Year Without a Santa Claus™, as the movie ends I look at him, “You know,” “Hmm?” he asks turning his head to look at me, “you look like you’re on the naughty list… But man I’ve never met a kinder person.” He smiles at me, “I could say the same about you, no one ever listens to my troubles like you do, laughs at my jokes as hard as you do, no one compares to you” I scoot a little closer to him, “I’ve never met someone who listens to my worries, my fears, or makes me smile when my day has been the absolute worst” He scoots in a little closer, “I’ve never fallen for someone as fast as I fell for you,...”
I look from his eyes to his lips, four times before I lean in, turning my head and kissing him. His lips are as soft as his word, plush as the pillows behind us. When we, finally, pull away, I say softly, “I’ve never fallen for someone like I have for you, it's like a bottomless pit.” He grins, “What does this make us?” I think, “Well I’d say we’re in relationship, unless you don’t want that-” He shakes his head, “No I think being a relationship would be perfect” I peck his lips, “I think this has been the best Christmas Eve I’ve ever had.” He whispers into my ear, “I second that” he grins pulling me into his lap wrapping the blanket around as we start up another movie.
