In a very nice ceremony on the 27th June, the prestigious "Gastronomos" magazine gave its "Awards of Quality 2016" for the 9th consecutive year. As the emblematic Greek winemaker and mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Yannis Boutaris sayed, "the awards of "Gastronomos" are meaningful. Their aim is not to simply reward a good product or even the best one. The awards are given to people who are pioneers, who love what they do and act as a beacon to everyone else". One such man is Mr. George Gavalas, a 4th generation winemaker of Santorini. He was awarded for his successful effort to revive the forgotten varieties of Santorini and for his contribution to the international reputation of Greek wines. "Ιn the vineyards of Santorini Assyrtiko is the protagonist" he says. We love it because it has taken us out to the world, but the place has other remarkable varieties such "Katsano" and "Gaidouria". I started with Katsano which has been listed in the seven best wines of the Mediterranean. Three years ago I made wine from "Gaidouria" that has already sold out and now we are preparing a new variety that will come out in about a decade. Congratulations Mr. George! To you and the whole team of Gavalas Winery! #vraveiapoiotitas16 #gastronomos10years #gastronomos #gavalaswinery #megalochori #santorini #yannisboutaris #assyrtiko #wine #katsano #gaidouria #travel #taste #feel #feelsantorini
