It’s vitally important that people remember that no matter how many followers someone has on here they’re still literally just some person with a blog and not, like, The Authority on anything.

That said, I do like KCD2's characterization of Hans perfectly fine, even if I overall far prefer his (and Henry's!) KCD1 incarnations. Hans' Trosky Region self is most in keeping with his OG characterization: impulsive, aggravating, joyful, impatient, wayyyy too eager to heap weird, inappropriate praise on Henry and to curse him out and ask him to do his various biddings. It makes sense that Calmer Capon starts after several servings of humble pie and multiple near-death experiences, culminating in his almost hanging, his first sincere apology to Henry, and (if you go that route) the first inklings of a deeper connection. He's on his back foot in almost every way it's possible to be.
I love the Trosky region most because the gameplay and quest structure does a really excellent job of reinforcing the characters of Henry and Hans - who they are separately, who they are to each other, how they need to grow, and how utterly out of their depth they both are in their own stupid, special ways. Once they're reconciled, watching them try to figure out how to navigate everything from the burning of Semine to Nebakov together is honestly more intimate and romantic to me than most of what happens in Kuttenberg!
There's a lot to enjoy about Act 2 and its more action-movie, ensemble structure, but Henry and Hans do get a little swept up in the tide. Hans' feelings of insecurity and inadequacy are still there, but as more of a backdrop and addressed less elegantly with things like the claustrophobia.
As a side note, Henry and Hans' final conversation in the entire game-- the one about Hans' wedding--might be my favorite they have in all of KCD2. Yes, the "encouragement" line is extremely funny, but also: them bitching about Hanush and going back and forth about Jitka, Hans moaning about how she's probably an ugly shrew, Henry being like "awww I bet she's pretty :)" while they discuss how they want to keep sleeping together, then pivoting to childishly scheming about how to get the wedding called off?? It's just peak them to me. Perfect note to end it on.
