Scholar Therion AU! Ironically!!
Not a swap au however; based on these lines of dialogue (which is like my favorite dialogue ever… sobs) (mainly the last one)
Im writing this here first so that i dont get this messed up; Therion and Cyrus’ age gap is 8 years; im gonna start this when Therion is 12 and Cyrus is 20
I dont know the full scope of when the Scholars graduate and when Cyrus became a teacher and such, but at the moment I’m going to assume he is newly graduated and starting as a professor
Weee also dont know when Darrius and Therion met so I’m also going to put that later on, i’d say about when they were both 15-16 ish? Mainly because neither of them use a childs voice in the first flashback so we are prior to that
And yeah im gonna yap as if im writing on fuckin ao3 cos why not
Growing up, Therion was cast under the title of a thief, and no one believed he could change, even if he was just a child. Even with all his pitpocketing skills and his sly movements, he would tinker with elements on his own from time to time. Mainly because the one time he was seen using elemental magic, he got scolded for his technique. So he did it on his own.
When he was passing through Atlasdam one time, mainly heading to see what he could steal from all the wealthy rich folks and nobles, but in the back of his mind, also wanting to sneak into the Royal Academy or at least peek through a window for a teaching. Therion had been sneaking around, but apparently not good enough, because some older teenage rich students took attention to him and beat him up. Fun! So he ended up sitting in an alleyway, trying to make a small controllable flame to warm himself in the cold winter, but it just ended up burning his hand instead.
Passing by, Cyrus must’ve heard his small frustrated noise from burning his hand because he looked into the alley to see this small, scrawny kid trying to use magic just to keep warm. The scholar sat in the alleyway with Therion, producing a fire of his own (of which was much more refined magic) to keep them both warm. He spoke with them, and Therion decided to trust his man. (I mean who wouldn’t trust some kind-faced guy with a crow on his shoulder?? yeah the crow is here)
Cyrus took him to his home to stay for the winter, and surprisingly, Therion took a liking to Cyrus and the city. He still thought most of the rich scholars were rude and full of themselves, but that was mainly just cause they were rich. Not because they were scholars. Therion also liked Odette, who in turn took a liking to him. She was bold, and the way she would get on Cyrus’ case was amusing to watch. Therion ended up asking Cyrus for help about applying to be a student at the Academy, and (overly excited) Cyrus helped him get in a class.
I think because this was before Therion was betrayed or even met Darius, he would be more open to the help. Instead of keeping himself away, this is the first time anyone would have ever even wanted to help or befriend him. And i’ve always imagined Therion as a child tinkered with elemental magic (hence the comment he made in the travel banter with cyrus) but gave up after getting slander from experienced magic users. But i looove Cyrus so much with how he treats inexperienced and or younger people, and replaying his Chap 4 recently made me realize that even more. He would NEVER scorn a child for not knowing how to use magic if he was never taught. Im sure Cyrus was very excited about Therion wanting to be a scholar MAINLY to be his teacher and or tutor and so that he could surpass him one day to learn from him in turn.
I feel like they’d have a very found brother bond and as I briefly mentioned Therion and Odette would totally get along.. I mean i can just like imagine her going “this kid’s cool cyrus you should keep him” /SILLY
Again…. The fanfic possibilities are endless….
I actually was going to make this comment in tags but i feel its important enough to put here
If any of you ever find my ideas interesting and want to write a fic or draw a comic or anything about it, just ask me!! More than likely i would be SO happy you find my idea that good to use! Because that means i get to consume it when you do make it LOL, but the only time I would say no is probably if Im actually dead set on doing something with it myself!
