It seemed during the Abdullah round that only Abdullah was ready to try moving on after his father’s disappearance. He managed to share his first kiss with Ai (much to his mother’s displeasure), but the focus on his love life meant he didn’t make any effort to keep in touch with Lanie Grey. He lost her as a best friend. Yasmina cried most of the time and barely cooperated when Nanny tried to teach her how to walk. Lian spent a lot of time on the phone with Ville Mann. He’s the only person in law enforcement that’s willing to listen to her concerns.
“Sometimes you’ve just got to do what’s right even when everything is against you.”
No one is helping. That’s all she could think as she adjusted the straps of her backpack, waiting at the very edge of a burning city. The fighting had already long ended but there was still no help coming from anywhere else.
Because it was supposed to be quartined. Leaving the dying and injured to suffer because of unfounded fears.
She was a reporter. She’d find the truth and if a few people mysteriuosly got outside help? Well it’s not like anyone could point a finger her way.
So it’s time to stop stalling. She steps forward, ignoring the way the ground crunches benath her shoes. There’s long days ahead of her.
Mute charmer mc with Yasmina (I went ahead and did a random pick for characters and Yasmina won!)
"And what do you think you're doing?" Her voice comes from the doorway. Soft English accent tinted with amusement.
You can feel a smile pull at your lips, as you turn to find her arms crossed and a quirked eyebrow. Amused grey eyes framed by a dark red hijab, as she playfully glares at you.
Your smile softens as you bring up a piece of paper handing it to her than leaning back against her desk expectantly. Watching her look down at it, watching as her smile tugs expectantly into a frown.
"What did you do?" She looks back up at you accusingly.
You shrug your shoulders. Confusion set into your brow, to show that you have no clue what she's talking about. You've only done one thing that requires an apology… at least right now.
"Don't give me that," she sighs moving to set the paper back down, "You never apologize, it's always the other way around," she pokes a finger into your chest, "Somehow, some way it's always someone else that's apologizing to you. Even if it's your fault."
You… can't actually deny that. So you shrug, hands coming up, moving slower than normal to let her easily try to decipher what you're saying; Believe it or not, I do apologize. Especially when I accuse a friend of something you didn't do.
It takes her a moment, asking silently for you to repeat some parts, she's learned faster than you expected and it's made conversations between the two of you easier. And you appreciate the effort she's put in.
"Oh? So you're admitting you were wrong," she looks back up at your face. Her smile smug and you can't help but roll your eyes.
Yes, you know she's never going to let you live this down, it was another reporter who revealed my past. You frown, remembering your confrontation with said reporter. You have no doubt your identity will be revealed all over the news soon.
"I'm sorry," she says it quietly, shoulder bumping into yours as she leans on the table next to you.
Yasmina… I'm supposed to be the one apologizing, you elbow her slightly a silent laugh on your lips.
"Damn, see what I mean? You just get this kicked puppy look and you've got everyone apologizing to you asking how to make everything better," she laughs elbowing you back.
It's a gift.
"It certainly is," she shakes her head smile faltering a bit as she gets lost in her thoughts, "I'll accept your apology…" you look at her, her grey eyes capturing your mixed ones, "if you tell me how you convinced a bunch of heroes to use you as a consultant."
You double over, laughter stuck in your throat so that all she would hear is breathy wheezing from you. Your hands shaky, unable to clearly say anything so you stop, and refocus on trying to catch your breath.
When you finally look up at her she looks unsure what to do. Holding back slightly with concern that evaporates into amusement when she catches your smile.
