I’ve been off for a couple of days and just catching up with this Writing Friends Challenge. Today’s question: First Draft or Revision? I hate drafting. I’m a pretty impatient person and I just want the story out of my head and on the page. I was also trained as a journalist so I draft with a pretty thin word count. Write what scares you. I keep telling myself this as I draft my new ms that is deeply personal and feminist AF. This song by Dua Lipa was brought to my attention when I told a family member about the story I’m planning to write. As I listened to the lyrics, a knot formed in my throat. This song speaks to everything I want to say in this book. Stop underestimating young women. Stop writing them off as dumb and frivolous. Stop hunting them like prey at parties or when they walk to their cars at night. Just. Stop.
