Trapped - A Big Hero 6 fanfic
Yasuo had heard the very same doubts before. Those were his own doubts being spoken by other people. They echoed in these hallways, and they did so in his mind.
He could see a corner inching closer to him, one that he swept himself into. Always the same long hallway waiting for him, always stuck in this labyrinth. The more he ran, the closer the voices came up to him.
"...Not more than a few months left to live..."
"...Pretty useless, if you ask me..."
"...Pathetic, isn't it? Why does he even try?"
Shaking his head furiously, Yasuo pressed on, holding on to hope which kindled his strength, though little it may be. These hallways couldn't run on into forever, an escape waited for him...
Up ahead he could see a door creak open, voices so familiar resonating from within it. He cautioned himself, don't look in there--
His eyes slipped a glance. There inside, his parents stood by the bed, their backs turned towards him, but Yasuo could tell they were mourning. The figure underneath the bedsheets lay still.
And like static, the image distorted, an ugly mess of white noise before him then shifting into the tall, slender figure of his cousin. From behind a pair of glasses, his two eyes shimmered with contempt.
"You bring grief everywhere you go, Yasuo. Maybe it's about time I help you fix that--"
He lunged forward, catching Yasuo by the neck as he closed in his grip on him. The young boy felt faint, his eyes rolling back into the sockets, his vision going white...
But why was he running again? The darkness had blotted out the light, bringing him back to running through hallways. Everything around him seemed to move. The walls and ceiling seemed to melt and morph into grotesque shapes around him. His locomotion slowed down greatly, his willpower once again failing him--
He looked back for a brief moment, only to bump into something and fall backwards. Stunned, he looked up.
The older Hamada's face was void of emotion. "Why are you out of your room? You can't be running around here on your own."
Yasuo's mind went a million different ways, unravelling in words. "I-I have to get out of here--I can't stay here--p-please help me--"
"I will help you, Yasuo. But I'm afraid you're never getting out of here." A brief flash of flourescent light before a dark shadow concealed part of Tadashi's face. "You can't help it that you're too weak to ever get better..."
Something caught Yasuo from behind, immediately putting a tight hold on him. Baymax captured the young boy, unwilling to let him loose.
"Take him back to his room, Baymax."
Yasuo watched as the older Hamada was pulled back from his sight, the hallway growing longer by the second. He kicked, struggled, and fought to break free. No, he couldn't stay here--his real family waited out there--his friends, the people who believed in him--this wasn't real--
The firm hold on him vanished so quickly that he fell forward, landing hard on the ground. Pain shot everywhere, nothing that he had felt before. What little strength he now had, he used to look up.
The hospital's front doors was there, waiting for him to run through, into his freedom. If he could just even crawl his way there...
A firm hold on his legs prevented him from any escape. He wriggled forward, crawled, anything to get out--
"Don't fight back anymore, Yasuo-san."
It wasn't the words which shot like icicles through him, but the voice who spoke them. His heart on a freefall into the darkest of despair, Yasuo looked back.
Hiro yanked him backwards with one strong tug, turning him over on his back. His childhood friend had gotten bigger, taller, and stronger over the years. It didn't spell well for Yasuo at the moment.
"I'm sorry, Yasuo." His voice rang cold and dark. "I'm sorry I ever believed in you. There's nothing else I can do--this is for your own good..."
Next thing he knew, Yasuo was being strapped into a stretcher, his best friend's grip on him disappearing but now he was unable to move at all. Tall, faceless figures stood atop him, closing in on him, plunging him farther into darkness.
And the voices followed him down, so did the pain. All of it engulfed him, drowning out his cries for help, muffling the sounds...
His eyes snapped open and he could see Hiro's enormous, barechested frame over him, eyes twinkling with fresh tears. Yasuo knew nothing else but to throw himself forward and cling onto Hiro, burying his face on those broad shoulders, strong enough to carry heavy loads as well as heavy hearts.
He had cried loud enough to attract the attention of everyone else in the bedroom. The lights blinked to life, and there was Tadashi in his pajamas, rubbing his eyes. Baymax also stood in his charging station, but had been fully aware of what went on.
"It's all a dream, Yasuo-san," Hiro whispered into his beloved's ear. "We're here. Tadashi's here. Baymax's here. I'm here."
His older brother found a spot next to them, running a hand down Yasuo's back. "It's all right, Yasuo. We're here."
Baymax waddled over to them, leaning forward to gather all three of them in a hug. No words were needed between them; Yasuo could feel their presence so real, so enfolding--
This was reality. One that he welcomed with open arms.
He had then calmed down enough to get his bearings. He was back in the brothers' bedroom, comfily warm within Hiro's arms, even when the nightmare began. Tadashi had gotten the three of them warm mugs of milk, which helped greatly with calming Yasuo even further.
But still, it paled in comparison to the three of them--Baymax, Hiro, and Tadashi--being there with him.
"I'd no doubt that you were going to get better, even way before," said Tadashi. "It seems so long ago now, the first time we met you. Look how far you've come."
"We've never given up on you," said Hiro. "And we won't start now.
"You've made immense improvement from before, Yasuo," said Baymax. "Any further concerns we will be more than willing to help you with."
Yasuo remembered the moments when he had first met them; it was no longer so much about how long he had stayed in the hospital before meeting them, but more about what happened to him after they entered his life. He couldn't be any more grateful for it; he took that gratitude and the feeling it gave him into his sleep.
Later that night, Hiro had Yasuo in his embrace, as it always was every single night. The latter lost himself in the warmth of his significant other's enormous body; Yasuo had then pressed himself against Hiro's torso, longingly nuzzling his chest, breathing into his abdomen.
"I'm so sorry I scared you back there, Hiro," he whispered. "I wish I could never have these dreams again, I really do."
"No matter what, Yasuo-san, I'll protect you from whatever comes your way--even bad dreams."
A glimmer of tears shone at the rims of Yasuo's eyes. "You always make me feel so safe and loved, Hiro-chan. I don't know what I ever did to deserve it."
Hiro gently lifted Yasuo's head. "Because I love you, Yasuo. That's all there is to it. I love you so very much and to see you hurting in any way--it hurts me as well. And I promised you a long time ago that I would always protect and love you forever and ever. I plan to keep that promise. I want to be with you forever, Yasuo-san. Please allow me the chance to do so."
He drew himself in for a tender kiss on Yasuo's lips. It was reciprocated with a kiss as tender as a spring's morning.
"And I promise to always love you and be with you. You make me happy and safe, and I'm forever thankful for that. You mean so much to me, you mean an eternity of happiness to me."
Hiro pressed Yasuo's head on his chest. "I love you, Yasuo."
"And I love you forever, my Hiro."
They slept peacefully in each other's presence--the way they meant it to be.
