Project Evaluation
To begin the project, I decided to pair up with another student for this project. (Bethany Fairhurst). We decided to work together as we have done in the past and received good outcomes on past projects; therefore we felt that two heads would be better than one on this project. To begin with we struggled deciding on a brief to undertake, as we felt that none of the briefs provided, suited our skills and would engage us as much as we would like. We started with the Orchard Pig brief and began thinking of ideas, however after receiving feedback from tutors we felt that it wasn’t the project for us. So then we was back to square one and had to reconsider the other briefs. Eventually we agreed on the Fedrigoni brief, with the creative challenge being: Creatively use paper to promote our new retail space: The Imaginative Papers Shop.
We liked the idea of creating something using only their paper to promote them expanding the company. To come up with initial ideas was challenging at the beginning, however we came up with an idea based from the things you can do with a single sheet of paper. From there we decided we wanted to create some form of pack that people would be able to pick up for free in public places. As the project moved on quickly we came up with the name ‘Endless Paperbilities’ for the campaign. I feel that the project went really well once we had got into the swing of things, once the ball started rolling the ideas/designs came easily. I think together, Nicola and me worked to each other’s strengths. I was stronger on creating ideas and concepts whereas Nicola was better at delivering these ideas into design.
I think the most challenging part of the project was trying to stick to the initial ideas behind the campaign and to make sure that what we designed, would appeal to a wide target audience – as Fedrigoni appeal to all people. We couldn’t steer too far away from the brief and what it is about, also we needed to keep it within Fedrigoni’s design boundaries. If we was to do this project again, I would definitely have organised our time better, as we wasted the first few weeks deciding what we wanted to do for this project, as lesson learnt for future projects. I think I would rate our work as good as I feel that there’s always ways of improving your work, also if we hadn’t wasted time at the beginning of the project we could have expanded our project to a bigger scale and had more deliverables. However I am happy with what we have achieved and have really enjoyed this project.
