When I was a child
I never really had friends
Or people who understood me
They told me I was 'weird'
Strange
That's what they said, and that's what I thought
I never understood them, really
And I still don't
What they say is never what they mean
Sometimes I wish I could
Know how to live beyond
My fleeting obsessions
And my everlasting love for books
Sometimes I wish I could fit in
Or at least pretend
To not be 'weird' anymore
To be 'normal'
But other times I love this
Little nest I built
And the birds that admire it
The same way I do
