call me sappy and childish but god I’m such a sucker for a hopeful ending. I’m a sucker for “what if he stayed”, “what if she was there in time”, “what if they never split up”. For “what if it all ended up being okay, despite it all”.
The horrors persist but so do my stupid rat bastards and they will continue to do so until the very end. I said so
In that case….. can I request a Poly rogue and gambit x trans masc reader ?
They’re attempting to bake a cake :3 pure fluff please 🙏
Notes: Somebody go get an oiling can bc I am rustyyy. Anyways I hope you enjoy <3
Also I cannot find a rogue x reader request from a few months back ffs
Proofread: yep.
(Wow I haven't made one of these in a minute)
“How much sugar do you think we should put in here?” Gambit picked up the bowl to show Rogue. Rogue tilted her head to look at the list of ingredients. They made it to the cake batter without messing up so far. You watched your lovers bicker lightly over the amount. Your eyes glanced over to the lovely bag of cookie dough they planned to add to the cake, and a mischievous thought crosses your mind.
“The list here says 1.5-”
“Ugh,” Gambit rolled his eyes. “Gambit thinks we should put more than that”
“Ah’ side with you on that suga, but this cake ain't just for us, and the professor wants us to use the list.” Rogue took the bowl from his hands, placing it back on the counter. Gambit watched Rogue reach over to the bag of sugar before taking it and holding it close to himself. “Wha- Remy!”
“The team will be glad that Gambit put a lot uh sugar in it” Gambits spoke quickly, reaching over to grab the measuring cups but Rogue beat him to it.
“Nuh-uh, you ain't gonna have me at fault for messing up the cake”
“No cake needs this less of sugar!” Gambit held his hand out for the cups. Rogue yanked them closer to her. “Beau, would ya be kind and tell Rogue to hand the cups ova’ ” Gambit turned to you. Gambit and Rogue paused and watched in disbelief as their lover had a mouth full of cookie dough, and another piece in your hand ready to eat some more. In the midst of their squabble, your unattended self wandered your sneaky little hand onto the pack of cookie dough and opened it.
“Y'all took too long” your muffled voice dragged out.
“Honey-” Rogue raised a hand to her forehead.
“It's not my fault. I mean it is- but” You pointed up your index finger. “It was just sitting here so I might as well, right?”
“No!" They both said making you deflate.
“No fun, the cookie dough was nasty anyway” You crossed your arms.
“Then why continue eating it?” Gambit asked. He took notice of Rogue not paying attention to him and shifted closer to her. You shrugged your shoulders and hummed in response.
“Ah’ don't even think that was supposed to be eaten uncooked suga’ ” Your face dropped at this.
“Oh.”
Before she could scold you even more, Rogue felt the measuring cups get snatched out of her hand before turning to Gambit who had a playful smirk on his face.
“Remy!”
“Just let Gambit do this cherie, please” Gambit's “sad” eyes stared at Rogue. It wasn't long before she gave up saying: “I have someone else to worry about” and turned to you, still practically inhaling the little unsafe snack in your hands. After fussing over you, Rogue begrudgingly watched as Gambit carelessly poured the sugar into the measuring cup. The only bad thing was that it was over the bowl, meaning more sugar than guesstimated was going in. Oh well. She was going to fix it later. Everything was smooth sailing. The cake was put into the oven about 30 minutes ago, and the frosting, that they had to hide from you, was resting on the counter waiting to be used. But then the same issue from earlier returned.
“Shouldn't we take it out now?” You glanced back up at your two lovers.
Rogue shifted from one foot to another. “Well, we woulda known for sure if someone didn't want to do things their way” Gambit mocked offense at the verbal jab thrown at him.
“This cake's gonna turn out good and you'll like it. Watch.” He squinted his eyes at her.
“Whateva” Rogue turned back to you, your hand was full of sprinkles. Again. “Maybe about 10 more minutes? We can check up on it in a few if you'd like.” Rogue stood guard around the frosting she made after catching you sneak a taste. You stood in the kitchen. The cake was baking, every ingredient had been put away for your safety as some were still uncooked. Gambit and Rogue were now wiping down small messes on the counters. You were bored, and everybody was doing their own thing. You move towards Gambit before resting your body on him, face lying against his back.
“What's wrong Beau?” He asked, his back still turned towards you.
“This is why I don't like cooking. It takes waaay too long.”
“What would ya rather eat the batter instead?” Rogue moved over to the both of you, slinking her arms past you and around Gambit. This made Gambit face both of you and do the same. Their two bodies sandwich you in between them. You sighed before speaking. “I think we all know the answer to that question now.” You heard a fit of giggles bubble out of Gambit's chest. The three of you stood hugging each other, safe in each other's embrace. Everything was calm until you began to smell something burning.
Your eyes wandered over to the oven. The poor velvet cake was turning into charcoal and your lovers were too busy adoring you to notice. “Oh shit,” You mumbled loud enough for them to hear. Rogue looked at the oven and gasped.
“God dammit!” Gambit rushed to grab an oven mitt. Rogue shook her head as she watched him open the oven. When Gambit pulled the cake out, it was too late. The top layer was burnt, and the left side of it was broken, crumbling into pieces. You stared at the cake in complete silence before speaking up.
“Maybe the bottom looks okay?” You pulled out a small knife and lifted the cake from its side. The bottom layer was fine. You flipped it over to view it fully, parts of it stuck to the pan when you moved it. The cake was ruined. Rogue and Gambit knew so, and they were a little disappointed. But their lover didn't care. You just simply grabbed a fork and began to eat only the bottom red part of your supposed velvet cake.
“It's good! Sweet too.” You held up a piece to Rogue's mouth who hesitantly bit into it, but after a few moments, her eyes lit up.
“Well I'll be, this is good!” Rogue spoke out loud. Gambit blinked a few times, shocked before smirking.
“See? Gambit knew what he was doing.” With a hand on his hip, he puffed out his chest and wore a confident smile on his face.
“Sure you did” Rogue chuckled and reached over to the cake to grab another piece. The three stood eating only the bottom layer of their assigned red velvet cake, vowing to never speak to the professor about their mistake.
