Thinking about the inherent horror in doorbells. The way they obscure the visitor, the way they cloak an unwanted presence with music, how they alert you to a presence without giving you any more information.
They're seen as more gentle than knocking, but they're far from it. they're insidious beasts. a knock has a signature. You can guess who's there. A doorbell will chime the same for anyone. it's mechanical. fixed.
When somebody knocks on your door for hours, it will go up in intensity. they'll shake the door and you'll fear they'll break it down. If somebody rings your doorbell for hours it's the same every time. there is no building intensity, only speed. A shrill noise ringing through your house, over and over. Cutting itself off only to re-start. It's almost inhuman.
This is a good thing btw
