There is likely at least one timeline where their horror versions are your sans or papyrus. A reset after a pacifist timeline put them in the Neutral route that turns them towards a horror version. They have memories of you…with you. At first, these memories were inspirational. They had to live through this timeline. They had to…To see you again. To experience those moments with you again. But, after more and more drastic things happen, those memories became haunting.
