The absolute class that Bong Joon-ho had to quote, call out & share the spotlight w/ Scorsese. Basically calling the audience to stand and applaud Scorsese during HIS win. And to give love to the other directors as well certainly happens often but you could see the sincerity & admiration. I'm sure that Bong will be courted by Hollywood to work with the biggest names in the game and that's great and all. And he probably may want to engage some. But I hope he continues to make movies in Korea w/ Korean/Asian actors and let the world come to him. And maybe actors from another country will start getting more recognized in those fields during awards shows. Many of the Parasite cast, especially Song Kang-ho, should have been nominated in acting categories. Great that the cast won "outstanding performance by a cast" for the SAG awards at least. And the pure joy and surprise on the faces of the cast/producers was so touching. I'm half-Asian and proud to be Filipino. "But you're not Korean so why do you care so much about this?" The world tends to clump all Asians together into one group. Maybe partially because of that, it moves me any time something made by and with Asians does well. I feel strangely proud when it happens especially with Parasite since the Asian representation in Hollywood doesn't have a great track record. Many of your favorite actors did "yellow face" back in the day & there's still issues of non-Asians getting cast in Asian roles. I doubt that this will immediately change things but it's a start and here's hoping it continues to stay on that course.
